A surprisingly lush, full example of its appellation that might disappoint those looking for more typically bright, tart, lighter Picpoul virtues. Ripe pear and honeydew melon are tinged with pungent herbs as well as bitter melon rind and pear pip, and a hint of white pepper in the finish adds further stimulation.

90 points Rhone Report: "[$15 list] Beautifully fresh and lively, the 2011 Michel Gassier Cercius Blanc, a blend of Grenache Blanc and Sauvignon, delivers an outstanding bouquet of citrus-laced wild herbs, lime, and loads of wet stone-like minerality that flows to a medium bodied, juicy, acid driven palate that has a pure, focused texture and outstanding length. A smoking value, this is perfect for a hot summer day or for starting a meal. Given the balance and freshness, it will most likely age well, yet I still recommend drinking bottles in their first year or two. (Sep 2012)"
Producer notes: "70% Grenache Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Straw yellow with soft green highlights. Very aromatic, predominantly aromas of citrus, flowers, and flint. Medium bodied and crisp, pairs well with roasted monkfish, paprika grilled game hen, and goat cheeses."

90 points Robert Parker: No tasting note given. Previous vintage rated 92-94 points by Robert Parker: "...very high quality and deserve[s] readers’ attention. Hopefully my prose has convinced more than a handful of readers to try these remarkable wines from one of the most fascinating and compelling personalities in the entire wine world, and one dedicated to the highest quality."
89 points Wine Spectator: "Features powerful pear tart and spiced apple flavors, which are joined by notes of dried mango and fig. Hints of shiso leaf and tarragon show on the firm, focused finish. Drink now through 2016. (5/31/13)"

Made from 80% old vine Colombard (native to the region), plus Gros Manseng and Ugni Blanc grapes. It shows notes of melon, clean, pure flavors of citus fruit, an engaging herbaceous note, and a pleasingly dry finish. It is an ideal summer quaffer!

Producer notes: "Blend of Grenache Gris and Carignane Blanc. Deep in the south of France, amongst the Cathar ruins, cliff drawings, and dragon lairs, lay our vineyards. Their steep eighty year old vines are nestled on black schist soils and hunker low to the ground. Battered by wind and ghosts, they are survivors, like the secretive inhabitants who came before them. This wine is a homage to the Résistance heroine with a wooden leg, code-named Cuthbert. We hope you enjoy its rich, sumptuous aromas of fleurs blanches and liquorice."

90 points Rhone Report: "Very floral and perfumed, with tropical styled fruit, the 2011 Domaine Gardiés Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Mas Las Cabes is a blend of 70% Muscat, 15% Grenache Blanc, and 15% Macabeo that was aged 5 months on lees. Slightly exotic, star fruit, lemon, and lavender aromas and flavors developing with air, it is medium-bodied, fleshy, and polished on the palate, with a supple, rich texture, and a clean finish. Very well made, it should be served on the cooler side, and consumed over the coming 2-3 years. (Mar 2013)"
'20 Great Wines for $20 or Less,' San Francisco Chronicle: "[$15 list] Complex white from one of France's unheralded Roussillon. Jean Gardies is a name to remember in the Roussillon -- in part for the wines from his family's domaine, but also for the affordable Las Cabes wines from the town of Espira de l'Agly. This is Catalan France, and so the mix of Muscat, Grenache Blanc and Macabeu straddles that Pyrenees border between two cultures. The results are impressive in any language: ripe pear, bay leaf and citrus blossom accent a plush wine that simply relies on great old-vine fruit and minimal winemaking. (2/29/12)"

88 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lightly amylic-pear drop, resin, mineral, stone-fruit and peach-skin aromas dominate the youthful nose of this wine. Very clean and mineral-focused. The medium body and vibrant acidity give the palate a firm texture. Given its short, crisp finish, it is best consumed between now and through 2013. Good by the glass or with light fare. (Jun 2012)"
Producer notes: "Color: Bright yellow with green highlights. Nose: aroma with notes of fruit with white flesh type pear with a hint of citrus. Palate: Fresh and lively, atypically found in the middle palate a slight roundness that softens and helps to differentiate. Food pairing: Seafood, shellfish and grilled fish. Alcohol 12.5%."

91 points Rhone Report: "[$55 list] An outstanding white that has both richness and freshness, the 2011 Mas de Daumas Gassac Vin de Pays de l'Hérault Blanc is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay, Viognier, Petit Manseng, and Chenin Blanc that spent 6 months in stainless steel. Offering up an exotic array of lychee, mineral, spice, and baked apples, it has beautiful depth and richness on the palate to go with perfectly integrated acidity, excellent concentration, and a clean, refreshing finish. On the fuller side of medium-bodied, it is a knockout white that should drink nicely for 2-4 years. (Mar 2013)"

La Revue du Vin de France: "Wonderful wine, generous and marked by a beautiful, perfectly mature Malbec. The roundness of tannins (due to punchdowns) seduces and its oak (due to the partial aging in barrels and vats), integrates nicely. The whole is balanced and maintains a nicely cool style on the finish."

87 points Wine Enthusiast: "Celebrating 100 years of the domaine this year, Tariquet’s range of wines begins with this classic white. This has a crisp fruitiness, with a floral character and flavors of green plum, pear and a hint of pineapple. It’s delicious and ready to drink. Screwcap. Alcohol 11.5%. (Oct 2012)"
Producer notes: "Producer notes: "Ugni blanc 45%, Colombard 35%, Sauvignon 10%, Gros Manseng 10%. Superbly intense for a dry fruity white, its bouquet reveals floral and citrus aromas with nice touches of tropical fruit. Light and well-balanced, this wine is a thirst-quenching pleasure. Very refreshing at any time of the day, as an aperitif or with starters, seafood or fish."

Producer notes: "Gascony’s mild climate offers this grape variety a new range of aromas. A distinctive bouquet with fine intense floral notes, some minerality, and the underlying suggestion of ripe grapes. Fresh and refined with an attractive intensity. A fine expression of Sauvignon Blanc, this wine is a delight. Quality grapes and a winemaker’s expert touch combined to reach new heights. Serving suggestion: Serve chilled. Excellent with starters such as fish, seafood or white meat."

Producer notes: "A small portion of our Pinot Noir crop is harvested quite early and fermented at low temperatures to enhance fruity aromas. The remaining grapes are picked at their optimal sugar and ripeness in order to obtain a full-bodied and complex wine loaded with fruit. The grapes were destemmed and then crushed and fermentation and maceration took place in stainless steel tanks for between three to four weeks. We age about 30% of the wine in new French oak barrels for 3 to 4 months. Our Pinot Noir 'Les Oliviers' is less 'jammy' than its Californian cousins. It is perhaps more Burgundian and is delicate. It has lovely aromas of violets and shows ripe raspberry characteristics on the palate. It is a gorgeous food wine and works well with roast meats, tuna and cheeses."
