93 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$110 list] Bay laurel, sandalwood, and plum preserves in the nose of the 2006 Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape L-Ancely mingle on the palate - in archetypal Mourvedre fashion - with dark chocolate, beef blood, and sea water. These descriptions will not strike anyone who tastes this wine as being exaggerated; rather, the intensity of these flavors put this wine practically beyond imagination! Is this elegant or refined? No. If Mourvedre is inherently animal, this is a real beast. But it displays an elemental power that is irresistible, without becoming overbearing, and phenomenally rich ripeness and plush texture, without its 15.6% alcohol engendering heat or roughness in its throat-coating finish. Certainly it will be worth following for at least 5-7 years, and I would not be surprised to find it holding up well for a decade. (Jun 2009)"

92 points Wine Spectator: "Finely balanced flavors of dark fruit and roasted meat are supported by plenty of fresh acidity. Orange peel notes mark this midpalate, leading to a luscious finish of mint and dark chocolate. Complex, with plenty of creamy touches. Drink now through 2022. 270 cases imported. (10/15/12)"
Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault blend. This rosé shows aromas of great finesse, with prevailing notes of citrus fruits (pink grapefuit, lemon peel) layered with dry apricot, and a touch of butter. The palate is broad and complex, with flavors of spices. Its minerality brings natural freshness, without aggressive acidity. Pair with: mixed salads, shellfish, rock fish, Provençal cuisine, exotic food, cooked pork meats, white meat. This wine has ageing potential of up to 20 years. As it ages, it asserts its character and finesse in another range of aromas and flavors: honey, beeswax, dry fruits, cinnamon. With age, it pairs well with: tajine, veal sweetbread, salad with truffles, cooked eggs with truffles.

Producer notes: "Blend of Grenache Gris and Carignane Blanc. Deep in the south of France, amongst the Cathar ruins, cliff drawings, and dragon lairs, lay our vineyards. Their steep eighty year old vines are nestled on black schist soils and hunker low to the ground. Battered by wind and ghosts, they are survivors, like the secretive inhabitants who came before them. This wine is a homage to the Résistance heroine with a wooden leg, code-named Cuthbert. We hope you enjoy its rich, sumptuous aromas of fleurs blanches and liquorice."

93 points Rhone Report: "A rich, substantial, and serious red, the 2009 Michel Gassier Costières-de-Nîmes Lou Coucardie is a blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, and 10% Syrah that was aged for close to 18 months, on lees, in French oak barrels. The wine exhibits a deep, inky color as well as brilliant, rich aromatics of crème de cassis, spice, graphite, chocolate, and earth. While decidedly rich and leaning into the decadent realm, this stays beautifully fresh and focused. Full-bodied on the palate and structured, with layers of fruit and texture, impressive balance, and a classic, clean finish, this superb wine can be enjoyed now, but should evolve positively for 2-4 years, and have 10-12 years or more of prime drinking. (Sep 2011)"
90-93 points Robert Parker: "The outrageously complex, dense purple-hued 2009 Costieres de Nimes Lou Coucardie is fashioned from a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 10% Syrah aged in French oak on its lees for at least 12 months. The most limited offering, its blue/purple color is followed by aromas of toast, white chocolate, bay leaf, black currants, blackberries and a hint of coffee. This full-bodied, deep wine admirably demonstrates the potential of Mourvedre in the Costieres de Nimes. It should drink well for a decade or more. (Oct 2010)"
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The blend of old-vine Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah features slightly lifted aromas of oak spice, vanilla and dark fruit. The midpalate is creamy and lush, full of dark cherries and chocolate, whose flavors linger enticingly on the finish. Drink now-2016. Alcohol 15.0%. 250 cases produced. (12/15/11)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Supple and enticing, this red shows a light mulled edge to the plum and raspberry fruit, with notes of melted red licorice and a hint of pepper gliding through the finish. This has weight and flesh, but stays restrained overall. Drink now through 2013. (8/31/12)"

In the early '70’s Michel and Louis Bronzo acquired the property of the Bastide Blanche, with an eye to producing from the Bandol appellation wines the equal of more famous appellations like Châteauneuf. The Bastide Blanche Rouge 2010 is primarily from Mourvèdre, with Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. It displays spicy, black fruit aromas. Dense and powerful on the palate with layers of dark fruit and spice. A good accompaniment to roasted meats, cheeses and rockfish.
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 91 points by Robert Parker: "An outstanding wine as well as a great value from Bandol is the 2009 Bandol, a blend of 73% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache and the rest Cinsault and Syrah from 34-year-old vines. This boisterous (14% natural alcohol) red exhibits a dense ruby/plum color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of cassis, raspberries, pepper, garrigue and lavender. Full-bodied, rich, pure and well-balanced, this is a heck-of-a-value from Bandol as red wines of this quality and aging potential (a decade or more) usually cost twice as much."

91-92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "A blend of Carignan and Syrah with smaller amounts of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, the red 2007 Le Soula -- tasted assembled from tank -- practically throws punches from the glass, with powerful rosemary, fennel, juniper berry, and distilled-strength blueberries and blackberries. Far more refined in tannins than its 2006 counterpart, but no less dynamic and startlingly refreshing (indeed, little less so than the white!) this offers deep meaty and mineral dimensions along with palate-staining bitter blue and black fruits and resinous herbs. In its assertive, brisk way, this striking wine should be fascinating to work with and worth following for at least 3-5 years. (Jun 2009)"
16.5/20 points Michael Edwards (The World of Fine Wine): "(13% ABV) Very good, even ripe color: solid, constant nose of red/black fruit, very helathy and deep. Sleeping a little on the palate but with plenty of latent, potentially rich, and durable flavors. (Issue #33; 2011)"

91 points Rhone Report: "[$55 list] An outstanding white that has both richness and freshness, the 2011 Mas de Daumas Gassac Vin de Pays de l'Hérault Blanc is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay, Viognier, Petit Manseng, and Chenin Blanc that spent 6 months in stainless steel. Offering up an exotic array of lychee, mineral, spice, and baked apples, it has beautiful depth and richness on the palate to go with perfectly integrated acidity, excellent concentration, and a clean, refreshing finish. On the fuller side of medium-bodied, it is a knockout white that should drink nicely for 2-4 years. (Mar 2013)"

91 points Rhone Report: "Needing a decant to open up, the 2010 Mas de Daumas Gassac is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Pinot Noir, and 3% Syrah that spent 18 months in oak barrels. Inky purple in color, if offers up a deep, almost brooding bouquet of black currant, lead pencil, tobacco, roasted meats, and licorice that slowly unwinds over the evening, gaining additional freshness and complexity. Similarly styled on the palate as well, with a full-bodied, deep, layered profile that has beautiful balance and polish, it is a serious 2010 that should be given another 3-4 years in the cellar. It should drink nicely for 12-15 years. (Mar 2013)"
80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% rare grape varieties. A true aristocrat! 2010 is a splendid vintage, very full and rich, bursting with ripe fruit, with an excellent acidity that enlivens the noble, perfectly mature flavors. Classic Medoc vinification -- long fermentation and maceration (20 days at least) in stainless steel tank. No filtration. Barrel aged 12 to 15 months in used oak. Alcohol 13%.

93+ points Rhone Report: "[$85 list] A serious, old vine Grenache Cuvee that's aged all in new oak, the 2005 Mas de la Deveze Cotes du Roussillon Villages Pandora is still a baby in terms of development, sporting an inky purple color to go with decadent, awesomely rich aromas of roasted herbs, black licorice, smoked meats, crushed flowers, and earthy dark fruits. Full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, yet with impeccable balance, notable freshness, and a mineral and bitter chocolate driven finish, this is thrilling stuff that possesses loads of richness and power, yet also shows a sense of restraint and elegance. It opens up over the evening, yet never loses its primary, youthful flare or structured edge. I would give bottles another 3-4 years in the cellar, at which point it should be at the early stages of maturity, with a full decade or longer of prime drinking. (Mar 2012)"
92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$85 list] A special bottling of pure old vines Grenache in (four!) new barrels, Bernstein’s 2005 Pandora mingles strawberry jam, white pepper, smoked meat, and barrel staves in the nose, and comes to the palate amazingly sweet and high-toned, with strawberry liqueur underlain by persistent meatiness and stony mineral character. Fine tannins suffuse the palate but do not interfere with the enjoyment of so much pure, ripe fruit. (Oct 2007)"

From the rugged Roussillon VdP region of Côtes Catalanes in the village of Maury comes the second release of D66 from Dave Phinney. It is made from ancient Grenache vines grown in fields of black schist in this valley surrounded by the Pyrenees mountains, and it offers all of the intensity of these old vines and rocky soil vineyards. The intense heat from the daytime sun is reflected back to the gnarled, head-trained vines at night, increasing ripeness while maintaining acidity. The result is a very dark, concentrated and finesse driven wine that embodies this singular region and terroir.
Tasting notes: A dark red, almost opaque color coats the glass and drifts down the sides slowly after the swirl. Aromas of ripe crushed cherries intertwined with seasoned French oak dominate the nose and lead gently into an enormous entry. Ripe strawberries and bruised watermelon front the structured mid palate which bursts with bright acidity and subtle briar fruits. The finish is long, concentrated and lasting. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan.

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The blend in Revelette’s top red is 45% Syrah, 35% Cab Sauvignon and 20% Grenache, although it varies a bit from year to year. It’s riper, warmer and richer than the regular red, with plenty of savory spice notes, lavender and black cherry fruit. It’s long and richly tannic on the finish, but soft and rounded; a wine that you could drink now or hold up to 10 years. (Jul 2008)"

90-91+ points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Tasted as an assemblage from each foudre-sized, parcel-specific lot, the 2010 Roc d’Anglade displays blackberry and cherry fruit that are fresh and tart, yet lusciously juicy. With extremely fine-grained tannin despite early picking and bracing fruit character, this is at once smoothly mouth-coating and invigorating. Impressions of smoky black tea, peat, crushed stone and salted sirloin juices lead into an exuberant, downright refreshing finish. Surprisingly, this striking cuvee weighs in -- at 13.5% alcohol -- just below the 2009. I suspect it will merit attention for a decade. (Aug 2011)"

David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Tasted as an assemblage from each of the relevant demi-muids, the white 2010 Roc d’Anglade did not undergo malo-lactic transformation (Pedreno leaves it up to the wine to 'decide'). Fresh quince, lime, lemon and fig are garlanded in elusive flowers and laced with salt and chalk, for an impression that resembles a hypothetical blend of marginally ripe Chenin and Semillon (though the second grape here is in fact Chardonnay). A reductive whiff of smoldering candle wick is strikingly familiar from Loire Chenin. And no Loire Chenin would less vehemently invigorate, refresh, or 'mineralize' than this 13% alcohol Languedoc white rather curiously does. (Aug 2011)"

89 points Rhone Report: "Readers looking for a solid, yet well priced introduction into the wines of Côte-Rôtie could do much worse than purchasing a bottle Rostaing’s 2010 Les Lézardes, as it comes from plots just outside of the AOC and offers a window into the wines of the esteemed region for a fraction of the normal going rate. Lively and fresh, with notions of raspberries, leather, smoked earth, and the tell tail bacon quality that seems to only come from northern Rhône Syrah, it fleshes out nicely on the palate, has sweet, approachable fruit, and juicy acidity that lends freshness and focus on the finish. Already delicious, it will show additional complexity with another year or two of bottle age, and have a solid 4-6 year drink window, possibly longer. (Mar 2013)"

100% Vermentino. Bright gold in color. The nose is complex and delicate, with exotic fruit and citrus and hints of toasted vanilla. On the palate, remarkably fresh yet with good body. Well integrated with the oak. Long and generous finish. A rich, complex wine capable of ageing for several years..
