From the Jura region, 'Tant-Mieux' is a Poulsard-based sparkling wine, namely a Pétillant Naturel, meaning that fermentation was finished in the bottle without the addition of sugar. It has a dried cranberry color and a touch of cloudiness as the wine is unfiltered and was not disgorged. Aromas include dried tea leaves, orange rind and bright strawberries. On the palate, expressive strawberry notes dominate as hints of amaro, tea and a hints of sweetness round out the flavor profile. The fruit is ripe, but still reserved in an Old World fashion. Acidity is abundant and there is even a hint of coarseness to the wine giving it a balanced, but medium-weight texture. Throughout the nose and the palate there is a hint if ‘beery-ness’ to the wine as the wine finished fermentation in the bottle and the yeast remains.

Producer notes: "Intense ruby red, typical of the variety. Intense nose, meaty character, balsamic. Red fruit notes appear with aeration. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine is marked by soft acidity, and delicate tannins. Red fruit notes evolve into spicy, peppery flavors."

Importer notes: "An estate reflecting the image of an ever-changing Jura and family enterprise that was created in the early '40s by Désiré Rolet. A native vineyard consisting of 60 hectares distributed over the best hills of the Arbois and Côtes du Jura AOC vineyards, the Rolet Estate is the second largest winegrowing estate in the Jura. Tasting Notes: Its beautiful amber color reflects the presence of the Poulsard. The wine clings to the sides of the glass showing its level of concentration. 2003 was the ideal year for the harvest of straw wine. A confit of dry fruit, fig, apricots and quince dominates the nose. On the mouth, it is concentrated, persistent, and vivacious. This vintage is marvelous as an aperitif, paired with foie gras, dessert or simply by itself. Poulsard 20%, Chardonnay 40%, Savagnin 40%."

Trousseau is one of the principle red grapes from the Jura region of France. It is also called Bastardo, a component of port wine in Portugal. Winemaker Stéphane Tissot uses a biodynamic process with no chemicals or synthetic pesticides to make this wine. Light ruby in color. Bold aromas include black pepper, red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), and a touch of forest floor. In the mouth, the flavors echo the aromas of red fruits, black pepper and earthiness. Nice acidity and firm tannins make for good structure. Beautifully complex and juicy. Highly recommended.
