95 points Wine Spectator: "[$85 list] Rich, but pure and incredibly focused, with a laser beam of chamomile and quince cutting through the core of dried pineapple, white peach, Cavaillon melon and green plum. The finish has buried minerality, gorgeous mouthfeel and superb length. Drink now through 2030. 1,500 cases made. (9/30/11)"
95 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "With so much intensity, botrytis and concentration, this is going to be impressive. It is still very young, at a closed stage, but the ripe currant as well as the honey dominate. Great wine. (Jun 2011)"
92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Linden (i.e. basswood) honey and lily perfume; candied lime and grapefruit peel; quince preserves and pineapple scent the Baumard 2008 Quarts de Chaume and inform a glycerin-rich, oily, soothingly-unctuous palate that preserves elements of fresh citrus and salinity sufficient to call forth salivation and at least go some way toward offsetting what is for now extreme sweetness. The sheer persistence of flavor here is remarkable. This is likely to be a very long-lived (20+ year) and perhaps eventually an extraordinary wine. But for now it does not approach the complexity not to mention the sense of balance exhibited by the corresponding Coteaux du Layon Sainte Catherine. (Aug 2010)"

90 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$89 list] The Dagueneau 2008 Blanc Fume de Pouilly smells of lemon and caraway, which along with nettle, chalk, and salt make for an invigorating, bright, whistle clean and handsomely lean expose of its grape and terroir. This sends shivers up my spine, though it will no doubt be a bit too lean and bracing for some tasters. It should serve well for at least the next 2-3 years. (Aug 2010)"

91-92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Fresh lime and lemon -- along with the bite of their pips -- render Dagueneau’s 2010 Blanc Fume de Pouilly (just before bottling) refreshing and invigorating. Cut, bell-like clarity, and shimmering interchange of citrus, herb, salt, and stone lead to a ringing persistence that reels you in for the next sip, an appeal that I don’t expect will fade for at least the next half dozen years. (Jun 2012)"

The grape variety for this wine is Romorantin, and it comes from a vineyard planted in 1850, possibly the oldest vines of this variety in the world. The name "Provignage" indicates the method of vineyard planting practiced in France before phylloxera necessitated the grafting of French vines on American roots -- a tribute to the fact that this vineyard somehow survived the phylloxera epidemic that devastated European vineyards in the late 19th century. This wine displays the purity of its terroir, made up of gravel and flint. Like all non-grafted vines, its palate is full with pear, quince, white flower, honey and hazelnut aromas.

On the banks of the river Layon in the beautiful Loire valley exists one of the world's largest and oldest single wine stocks. Miles of underground cellars contain wines dating back to the 1800's. These are the sweet Chenin Blanc wines of Moulin Touchais, one of the Loire Valley's most legendary estates. Their vineyards are amongst the most famous in the Anjou area, lying in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon region. Like Huët, these wines are among the most ageworthy on the planet. In fact, Moulin Touchais is the only winery in the world we know of who gives a CENTURY LONG GUARANTEE ON THE LONGEVITY OF THEIR WINES.
These are by definition sweet wines, though not in the classical sense. Over time, the residual sugar melds with the acidity and fruit, leaving the impression they are much less sweet than they actually are. They are wines of great versatility, perfect harmony and among the great hidden gems of the wine world.
Unfortunately, the wines are seldom seen on the market. For one, the wine is only produced in great vintages. Secondly, they aren't released until at least ten years after date of harvest. When they are, the vast majority is quickly snatched up by locals, leaving very little for consumers here in the US. However, we just got our hands on a significant lot from their most recent release and were able to acquire good quantities on six top back vintages. And because we bought them directly from the domaine, the wines are not only pristine, but we got them at amazing pricing. In fact, really amazing! Wines of this quality, age and provenance simply don't exist in today's market, so we encourage you to take advantage of this unique buying opportunity while you can.

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Coteaux du Layon, which generally does not get much botrytis, so that many of its sweeter-styled chenin blancs are a result of the grapes dehydrating on the vine, rather than being concentrated by noble rot. This makes for a rather unique and compelling example of sweet chenin blanc, and such is the case with the new release from Moulin Touchais -- the1975. The nose offer up a beautiful mélange of fresh peach, candle wax, lemon oil , a touch of tea leaves, chalky soil tones and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and really beautifully balanced, with great focus and cut and a chiseled, long and classy finish. Just a superb bottle for drinking over the next few decades. 2010-2030+. (Jan/Feb 2011)"

94+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 1985 Moulin Touchais is drinking brilliantly and has now reached its apogee of peak performance. The superb bouquet jumps from the glass in a blaze of honeyed apples, apricot, chalk, a touch of new leather, oranges and yellow plums. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, complex and brilliantly focused, with great acids, outstanding focus and a very, very long, racy and honeyed finish. Just the essence of late harvest chenin blanc in the clay and chalky soils of the Coteaux du Layon. The 1985 Moulin Touchais is at its zenith, but clearly still has many decades of great drinking ahead of it and may yet improve with further bottle age! 2009-2060+. (Sep/Oct 2009)"
