87 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A generously if not dominantly wooded nose reflects notes of toast and vanilla along with overtly ripe white and yellow orchard fruit aromas. There is good richness and plenty of mid-palate volume and sap to the medium-bodied flavors that possess acceptable though not special depth and length. This is carrying quite a bit of wood and given how rich the wine is, the palate impression lacks the necessary verve to really carry it off. To be fair, and clear, there are no faults though I feel compelled to point out that the style will most please those who enjoy 'in your face' whites. Drink: now. (Sep 2012)"
Producer notes: "Evening Land's 2010 Etoile Pouilly-Fuissé is sourced from the region's most beautiful, ancient vineyards. Beauregard is a warmer terroir producing rich, round wines. The blending of Beauregard fruit with that of the cool terroir of Vergisson produces a wine that is acidic, racy, and pointed. The vineyards of the Macon are often overlooked and its fruit is all-too-often sold off for use in the big blends of the region."

From the Mâcon region of Burgundy, this wine is green-gold in color with a very complex nose expressing the fruit but also a minerality. It is both round and elegant, imparting subtle notes of white and exotic fruits.
WHWC Staff Notes: "Yes, it's Chardonnay. Now that really isn't so terribly off the beaten path. Agreed. But when was the last time you drank a bottle of Viré-Clessé? I thought so. With that, I'll proceed with recommending this splendid little white Burgundy which hails from the central Mâcon, just due north of the famous Solutré. Wines from this terroir may lack the scent of Meursault or the style of fine Chablis, but assuredly this little number delivers enough richness and sumptuousness to warrant the tariff and then some. I drank this the other night while watching my NY Rangers fight for their playoff lives. The wine paired tremendously well with my feast of local Armenian slow-roasted chicken with garlic sauce (Sevan not Zankou). Sexy aromas of orange blossom, ripe pear, and a floral top-note entice the drinker. More tactile in the mouth than the nose suggests, with strong minerality giving the wine some grip. A brisk and refreshing Chardonnay. And for what it's worth, the wine is certified ECOCERT which means that it is 100% organic, EU style. They've been farming organically since 2006 because they love their land." - Kaj Stromer

Considered one of the finest winemakers in France, Dominique Lafon produces coveted white Burgundies from some of the greatest vineyards in the Cote de Beaune. Always hungry for new challenges, he purchased 14 hectares of vines in the Mâconnais in 1999. He believes strongly in the potential of the region, but feels that too few vignerons have attempted to realize that potential. Thus, in the very same spirit he runs his renowned Meursault property, Dominique utilizes biodynamic viticulture, intense soil rejuvenation, tight yield control, and rigorous green harvesting to produce some of the most complex, vibrant and impressive wines the region has ever seen.

Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 91 points by Wine & Spirits: "Performing at the level of a fine Côte d'Or village wine, this Mâcon is a lithe white with rich layers of flavor. There's tension in the structure and complexity in the dry pineapple and grapefruit pith fruitiness. The wine continues to improve with air, as it will with several years of bottle age."

This family-owned domaine has been producing some of the finest 'Grand Vin de Terroir' wines for five generations. Marie-Pierre and Oliver Larochette completed work on their new cellar in 1999. Tasting Notes: Clean and round with mouth-filling grapefruit, lemon-lime notes and a subtle mineral backdrop. Pair with: seafood, shellfish and olive oil based pastas, fresh Chèvre and triple cream cheeses.
Not yet reviewed; 2009 vintage rated 90 points by Robert Parker: "If this exemplifies what we are going to see from the 2009 vintage in the Maconnais and further north in the Cote d’Or, consumers are in for a treat. Larochette-Manciat’s 2009 exhibits plenty of steely freshness as well as ripe nectarine and honeyed melon notes presented in a fruity, medium-bodied style. It is a beautiful white combining power with elegance. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years."

Producer notes: "Pale-gold in color, this St.-Véran offers intense, complex aromas of flowers and white fruits (lime and peach). Generous on the palate, this wine is round and balanced with a long finish. Its tangy mineral impression confers freshness, in line with its regional typicity."
