94 points Robert Parker: "This is the finest Brane-Cantenac I have tasted in over thirty years. Unusually perfumed and already approachable (atypical for most 2005 Medocs), it reveals a deep plum/purple color as well as a stunningly flamboyant bouquet of smoked herbs, licorice, camphor, black cherries, currants, and notions of plums and blackberries. Elegant with silky tannin and medium body, it is clearly a classic statement on the Margaux appellation. While not a powerhouse, it is beautifully concentrated, stunningly balanced, and surprisingly forward. It could be drunk now after several hours of decanting, but it should age easily for 20+ years. (Apr 2008)"
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "The fruit has become the main attraction here--layers of ripeness, tempered with an elegant smoothness. The tannins are certainly present in this powerful wine, but they are here to lend support, not dominate. With herbs and very clean black fruits, this is a wine to follow. (Jun 2008)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Shows mineral and blackberry aromas, with hints of licorice. Full-bodied, with soft, silky tannins and a long, smoky, earthy, meaty and fruity aftertaste. Long and stylish. Very refined and beautiful. Best after 2012. (3/31/08)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "Lovely berry, spice and leather aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with firm and silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. A harmonious wine. Not quite what it was from barrel, but outstanding all the same. Racy Calon. Best after 2010. (3/31/03)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a solid, huge wine, with rich but very dry tannins. With its dense, almost black color, and its sense of brooding power, it promises long aging. It will never be in the opulent Bordeaux camp, despite its prominent new wood flavors, but will probably outlive all but a handful top wines. (Jun 2003)"
92 points Bettane & Desseauve's Guide to the Wines of France: "Expansive and almost exotic on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and ripe bell peppers, held in check by a tight texture. Drink: 2011 up to 2020. (2011)"
91+ points Robert Parker: "Back when my bottle reports came out in 2003, I urged extreme patience for this wine, which is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. I projected a maturity curve of 2012-2040, but based on this tasting, I would say the wine needs another 5-6 years, so call it 2016-2040+. One of the most unyielding wines in my tastings of the 2000s, the wine still has a very healthy, deep, dark ruby color, and earthy hints of herbs, licorice, and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, the hard, elevated tannins give this wine a certain austerity, but its outstanding weight, richness, and that very classic style argue for further discipline. Forget this for another 3-4 years and drink it over the following three decades. (Jun 2010)"

93 points Robert Parker: "[$45 list] This is a gorgeous effort, made from a blend of 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Cropped at 22 hectoliters per hectare from their clay over limestone soils, the wine displays oodles of new oak, crushed chalk, and blueberry and blackberry fruit with hints of raspberries and pen ink. It is full-bodied and layered, with a fleshy, even succulent mid-palate and a long, long finish. This is terrific Castillon to drink over the next 10-15+ years. (Feb 2012)"
93 points James Suckling: "This is big and juicy with lovely blackberry and chocolate character. Full and round with pretty fruit and a long finish. A beautiful wine from Castillon. Fabulous. From owner of Pavie and Pavie Decesse. Try after 2016. (4/29/12)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Shows the ripe, fleshy, polished profile of the vintage, with mouthfilling plum, blackberry paste and fig fruit flavors caressed by subtle cocoa and tobacco shadings on the finish. A crowd-pleaser. Drink now through 2017. 1,665 cases made. (6/30/12)"
Decanter: "Gerard Perse of Château Pavie in St-Emilion bought the former Château Lapeyronie in 2001. The Perse style -- with a preference for super-ripe grapes and prolonged barrel-ageing -- is replicated here, with the wines aged for up to two years in 60% new oak. They are predictably opulent, sometimes thick in texture, and quite extracted and tannic. Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but Clos Les Lunelles is in the forefront of modern-style Castillon. 92 points Robert Parker: "The finest d’Armailhac I have tasted to date, the 2009 is largely Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) blended with a big wallop of Merlot (25%) and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its dense purple color is followed by a big, sweet kiss of asphalt, black currants, mocha, barbecue smoke, cedar and spice. This medium to full-bodied, well-made, impressively endowed Pauillac should drink well for 20+ years. (Feb 2012)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "This has density, structure and drive, offering seriously dark baker's chocolate, plum, currant and fig flavors all wound up tightly by singed cedar, tar and dark tapenade notes, with a tight, mineral-driven finish. Needs a little time to unwind. Best from 2013 through 2023. (3/31/12)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Moderately saturated dark red. Expressive nose offers redcurrant, tobacco leaf, licorice and cedar. A spicy, energetic midweight with enticing sweetness to its juicy raspberry, redcurrant and tree bark flavors. Finishes with serious dusty tannins and lovely lingering red berry flavor. (Jul 2012)"

There is also a wonderful freshness and length to this somewhat oversized de Fieuzal while it still maintains its elegance and class. Drink it over the next 20-25 years. (Feb 2012)"

92 points James Suckling: "A soft and fruity wine, with lovely fruit and a lively tangy acidity. Lasts for a long time. Why wait? But will improve with age as well. (2/14/12)"
90 points Robert Parker: "Another major sleeper of the vintage, this consistently well-made wine (another consulting job by Stephane Derenoncourt) has hit pay dirt. It came in at 14% natural alcohol, with a final blend of 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vivid, explosive black cherry and blackberry fruit intermixed with some subtle charcoal as well as loamy soil and tobacco leaf notes are all present in the complex aromatics. Full-bodied, fleshy, without a hard edge to be found, this velvety-textured wine is ideal for drinking over the next 2-4 years. Who said Bordeaux doesn’t produce terrific wines at low price points? (Feb 2012)"
17.75/20 points Decanter: "Richly oaky nose, with just a hint of stewed fruit but not over the top. Fresh attack. Certain minerality. Firm tannic structure. It has line and length. Definitely a more serious wine. Should age. Drink: 2013-2022. Alcohol 13%. (Dec 2012)"

94 points Robert Parker: "A wine I completely misjudged early in its life, the 1975 has turned out to be a great wine and one of the top dozen or so wines of the vintage. It actually comes close to competing with the immortal 1975 La Mission-Haut-Brion, one of the most powerful, concentrated wines made in Bordeaux in the last 25 years. The 1975 Haut-Brion shows a dark plum/garnet color, a gorgeously sweet nose of singed saddle leather, scorched earth, tobacco, herb, red as well as black currants, plum, fig, and creosote. Very full-bodied, intense, with noticeable but sweet tannin, this layered, full-bodied wine is very opulent, rich, with striking aromatics. It is a fabulous effort in a vintage that has lost considerable support form Bordeaux wine enthusiasts. This is one of the exceptions. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025. (Jan 2003)"
18.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Full, mature colour. Marvellously aromatic nose. Velvety. Not a bit of 'hard edges'. Medium-full body. Very silky. Harmonious and aristocratic. Long and subtle. Seems lighter than the Cheval Blanc but it is just as intense. But I think it is more evolved. Very lovely. This is moth more concentrated and more vigorous than the 1978. Drink soon. (2004)"

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A dense wine, very much in the line of powerful wines from Haut-Bailly. Flavors of bitter chocolate, sweet berry fruits and richness are dominant, the acidity a fine balancing act to give a burst of freshness. (Apr 2010)"
90 points Robert Parker: "An extremely complex bouquet of cedar, unsmoked cigar tobacco, berry fruit, and earth is followed by a medium-bodied, silky textured wine that builds incrementally, impressing the taster with its purity, overall equilibrium, and length. It is a quintessentially, elegant, flavorful wine to drink now and over the next 12-14 years. (Apr 2010)"
17.5/20 points Thierry Desseauve (The World of Fine Wine): "Brilliant and perfectly balanced wine: great color, red-fruit-and-cedar nose, excellent tannic structure, length, and powerful persistence on the finish. (Issue #34; 2011)"

94 points Robert Parker: "A blend of just over 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot (last year I mistakenly wrote that the balance was Cabernet Franc), the opaque ruby/purple-colored 2009 reveals notes of scorched earth/burning embers/charcoal, black currants, ripe cherries and lead pencil shavings. Full-bodied and pure with sweet tannin, this is an under-the-radar, high quality claret to drink over the next 20-25 years. (Feb 2012)"
93 points James Suckling: "A wine with lovely dark berries and chocolates follows through to a full body with chewy tannins and a fit finish. Very in form. Best ever? Try in 2016. (7/31/12)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good full, bright ruby-red. Inviting aromas of black raspberry, graphite, charcoal, tobacco and crushed stone. Lush and thick on entry, then densely packed and fine-grained, with excellent energy and definition to its concentrated, lightly medicinal flavors of black cherry, licorice and minerals. Boasts terrific volume for this bottling, and a long finish that features building, ripe tannins. There's excellent sweetness here but the wine's youthfully medicinal character argues for at least four or five years of patience. (Jul/Aug 2012)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "Bright cherry and berry fruit flavors nestle in a broad, soft texture in this juicy red, which has bright acidity, modest tannins and an herbal, floral finish that's fresh and focused. Not a blockbuster, but balanced and harmonious. Drink now through 2017. (3/31/12)"

93 points Robert Parker: "Deep plum, currant, and mineral notes emerge from the concentrated, beautifully balanced, pure 1999 Haut Brion. It seems to be cut from the same mold as years such as 1979 and 1985. There is a hint of graphite in the abundant fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, nuanced, subtle, deep, and provocatively elegant. It is made in a style that only Haut Brion appears capable of achieving. The finish is extremely long, the tannins sweet, and the overall impression one of delicacy interwoven with power and ripeness. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025. (Apr 2002)"
19.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Fullish colour. A nose of great distinction. Not a blockbuster but rich, concentrated, classy and very, very lovely fruit. This is substantiated on the palate. Fullish body. Very intense. Very poised, very long and of very high class. Drink: 2009-2030. (2004)"
4 stars, 'Highly Recommended,' Decanter: "Spicy, vibrant black-fruit; exuberant and pure. Sumptuous and concentrated, with ripe tannins and firm acidity. Fragrant wild roses nose and has all the satiny smoothness that La Mission lacks, a beautifully poised wine with perfect balance. 2009-2020. (Nov 2009)"

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dense and dark, this is an extracted wine with polished fruit. What stops it going over the edge is the delicious sweet fruits, the dense structure and the elegance that gives it shape and aging potential. (Jun 2008)"
93 points Bettane & Desseauve's Guides to the Wines of France: "Very ripe grapes, yet the intense sun of the vintage did not mask the finesse of the terroir in this wine. The wine has a remarkable balance between high alcohol and elegance in body and texture. A future classic of the vintage. Drink: 2011 up to 2025. (2011)"
92+ points Robert Parker: "I remember tasting a number of Kirwans from the 19th century that had held up surprisingly well for over 100 years. While the 2005 will probably not last that long, it may be one of the finest wines this estate has made in the last fifty years. This brilliant, full-bodied, powerful, broodingly backward Margaux exhibits a dense purple hue along with notes of charcoal, licorice, blackberries, and graphite. Exceptionally concentrated, possessing high tannin, zesty acidity, and a 45-second finish, it should be purchased only by patient connoisseurs. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035. (Apr 2008)"

A sleeper of the vintage, this 2008 remains backward and thus will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring. It has the potential to keep for two decades. (May 2011)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lots of new wood here, very spicy, toasty on the nose and palate. There is a dense, firm tannic character as well and the finish offers fresh flavors, typical of 2008. For medium-term aging over 5-7 years. (Apr 2011)"

This amazing effort rivals such superb second wines as the 1989 Bahans-Haut-Brion and 1982 Forts de Latour. A serious red, it is sexy, opulent, rich, and luscious with silky tannin, enormous body, and wave after wave of mocha-infused black cherry and cassis fruit. It is almost too good to be believed. While drinkable now, it should evolve for 12-15 years or longer."

92 points Robert Parker: "The 1975 is a powerful Lafite, and troublesome bottles tend to reveal more tannin and funkiness than others, which have a roasted character, combined with a gravelly, mineral underpinning. As this wine has aged, it appears to be less of a sure bet. In most cases, it has been an outstanding wine, as the bottle tasted in December suggested. The aromatics indicate the wine is fully mature, but the tough tannin level clearly underscores the dark side of the 1975 vintage. This wine will undoubtedly last for another 30+ years, but I am not sure the fruit will hold. It is a perplexing wine that may still turn out to be an exceptional Lafite. Last tasted 2/96."

It finishes dry, the power of the tannin increasing with air, with a grip that will need long bottle aging to relent. Check on it ten years from the vintage. (Oct 2008)"
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and smoky, this wine succeeds on its charm, with soft tannins, acidity and superripe fruit. With its (for Pomerol) high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine certainly has structure, but maybe misses on richness. (Jun 2008)"

Dense and intensely flavored but at the same time quite juicy and penetrating, with terrific lift to its dark fruit flavors. An outperformer for the vintage, this rather powerfully structured wine has a serious spine for aging. (Jul/Aug 2010)"
