It is a challenge to make good Roussanne as the skin has considerable tannin and any skin contact can result in an astringently flavored wine. However, that's not a problem with this Roussanne fruit bomb. Notes of waxy orange marmalade and honeysuckle jump from the glass of this light gold-colored 2010. Alary's oenologist, Olivier Roustang, is also the oenologist for the Chave family in Hermitage, which may help explain the brilliance of this white wine. Drink it over the next 12 months. (Aug 2011)"

Deep, rich, and layered, with copious blackberry, toasted spice, dusty minerality, and ground pepper, this full-bodied Côtes du Rhône is uncommonly concentrated and possesses a brilliant textured, notable purity, and grippy tannin that gives the wine plenty of edge and cut on the blockbuster, heady finish. In any case, the 2009 Côte de Nuits Villages from Monsieur Bachelet is really superb, with the inherent elegance of the vintage very much in evidence here on both the nose and palate. Nevertheless, the wine was showing very well during my visit, as it offers up a fine bouquet of black cherries, cassis, bitter chocolate, grilled meats, a touch of new oak and a very complex base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely reserved, with fine mid-palate depth, impressive soil inflection, tangy acids and a bit of tannin that will need to resolve before this wine starts drinking well. This is texturally even more promising and incipiently plush -- for all of its brightness of fresh fruit -- than was the corresponding village wine; in fact, it’s also strikingly viscous, in a way that reinforces its medicinal aura. A range of dark forest floor and mineral shadings, notably peat and small game add further complexity to a gripping yet buoyant and refreshing finish. The nose is deep, pure and classic, as it jumps from the glass in a lovely mix of red and black cherries, fresh herb tones, raw cocoa, lovely soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and sappy at the core, with a great signature of soil, fine-grained tannins, tangy acids and excellent length and grip on the classy finish. I would tuck this lovely AC away for four or five years to let its secondary layers of complexity emerge, but it is going to be hard not to drink early on, as it is so beautifully balanced that its moderate tannins are not going to put up much resistance. 93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Beaux Bruns is a stunning wine in the making and clearly one of the best Chambolle premier crus that I tasted on this trip. The bouquet is deep, pure and really vibrant, as it soars from the glass in a sappy mélange of plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, intense violets and a stunningly complex base of soil. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and very soil-driven, with the great core of fruit wrapped in beautiful terroir. The finish is very, very long, with ripe tannins, excellent focus and grip and beautiful, nascent complexity on the backend. A beautiful bottle of wine that will richly deserve six or seven years of bottle age before broaching, just to let it really cut loose on the nose and palate. 2016-2040. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
90-94 points Fine Wine Review: "The Chambolle-Beaux Bruns is the first vineyard that Barthod harvested, as it always seems to mature faster than the others. The wine is powerful with mineral dark fruits and a hint of licorice. There is no heaviness here, and it seems to be a particularly successful vintage for this cuvée at Barthod. (Issue #130; 2011)"
'Outstanding' and 90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .75 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines). This is notably riper with aromas of warm earth, spice and red and blue fruit liqueur that merge into rich, generous and quite plump medium-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate fat and a long and delicious finish. This is not the most complex wine in the range but it is very Chambolle in basic character. Drink: 2017+. (Jan 2011)"
