Producer notes: "Fine spice of herbs and mineral aroma of stone-fruit and honey-dew. Very clear, straight, lively acidity, gripping and a long lasting mineral-base, a granular and almost spicy style, a very long sustainment on the palate. Alcohol 13.5%."
Not yet reviewed; 2007 vintage rated 93 points by Wine Spectator: "Concentrated tropical fruit flavors of mango and pineapple fill this rich Riesling. There's a ripe appley note as well, with intriguing savory herbal elements. This really hums on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2015. 267 cases made."

Bäuerl is a tiny Wachau estate located in the little village of Joching, up the street and behind the more famous Joseph Jamek. While Bäuerl's vineyards overlap Jamek's, the wines are quite different. Bäuerl's wines are lusty and earthy and well-structured made by the young Johann Bäuerl. The vineyard for the Stein am Rain Grüner Veltliner is at the bottom of the terraces behind Joching. It has a faintly peppery nose and is quite elegant, even more so than its Jamek counterpart, with more fruit and a slight green bean quality. Absolutely delicious and a great value!

Bill Mayer (The Age of Riesling): "Bäuerl's are lusty and earthy, with plenty of stuffing. They are not the most elegant wines in the world, but they give you the goods, and are just packed with flavor... Bäuerl prefers wines that are not too alcoholic, so that even though they have a kind of forcefulness to them, they are not ponderous, or thick. That slinky Wachau characteristic is always in evidence."

88 points Wine Spectator: "Crisp and rich, offering juicy flavors of ripe ruby grapefruit, peach and baked apple, with hints of apricot. Salt and pepper notes mark the finish. Drink now through 2016. (5/31/12)"
88 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sweet pure fruit, starring grapefruit flavors, is rounded with a more creamy character, and additional flavors of pear and fresh sliced melon, finished with pepper. abv: 12%. (Mar 2012)"
87 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "While the lightest Gruner Veltliner bottlings of this vintage at Brundlmayer were spare and overlain with green apple flavors, the 12% alcohol 2010 Gruner Veltliner Kamptaler Terrassen revealed a classic varietal nose of fresh green bean and lime, mingled with gooseberry more reminiscent of Sauvignon, all informing a juicy, brisk, firm palate and finishing with ample refreshment and invigoration as well as a bitter note of fruit pip. Enjoy it over the next 18-24 months. (Oct 2011)"

Terry Theise: "CORE-LIST WINE. This has attitude in 2011; herbs and even a hint of lees; the palate is cool and minty, with a firm peppery finish. More of a textbook GrüVe than either the glowy 2009 or the burly ‘10."
88 points and 'Year's Best Austrian Wines,' Wine & Spirits: "Sweet-fruited and spicy with clove-like tones, this is ripe and inviting, with the body to match roast goose or duck. Best Buy. (Apr 2013)"

Producer notes: "This Riesling is a blend of wines sourced from different terraced (=high quality) vineyards. The elevated terraces consist of stonier soils that bring fruit driven wines with mineral nuances and good aging potential. The vines from lower sited terraces grow partly on layered fertile loess and bring earlier maturing wines that are very expressive in their youth. By combining those two characteristics, we obtain a Riesling that shows both finesse and a certain vigor. Tasting note:
Impressive primary fruit in this vintage (classic apricot & peach and also tangerine & citrus), flowery elements some herbs and green tea, still a bit yeasty, yet open at the front, with a hint of minerals and flowery aromas, straightforward and fresh on the palate again with surprising fruit, medium body, mineral nuances, good structure and balance, already accessible showing good potential. Food pairing:
Seafood, cold starters, grilled fish, white meat, fried or roasted chicken and different Asian dishes if not too hot."

88 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$28 list] There is a wonderful tang of range zest in this fresh and fruity wine. With its attractive perfumes and flavors of currants it is ready to drink now but could age for a few years. Screwcap. abv: 12%. (Mar 2012)"
87 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Brundlmayer's 2009 Riesling Kamptaler Terrassen is pungently scented and piquantly flavored with lime zest, roux, and green apple, a strong sense of salinity helping to serve for mouthwatering refreshment in its finish. There is a palpable impression of high extract that helps the wine keep from coming off as too spare. I would plan to enjoy this over the next 18-24 months. (Oct 2011)"
87 points and 'Best Buy,' Wine & Spirits: "[$28 list] As light as lemon meringue yet as firm as steel, this is a simple, concise riesling, a refreshing pour for Friday night seafood suppers. (Apr 2012)"

Blauer Portugieser was formerly the most grown red varietal in Austria, but has since been overtaken by Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. Drinkable, fruity, mild organic wine with low acidity and good ageability. It will match well with a barbecue, a picnic or a simple snack.

88 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Maier’s 2010 Gruner Veltliner Rosensteig exudes ripe fresh apple accompanied by a salad’s worth of crisp, juicy, lightly peppery greens. Silken-textured and surprisingly gentle for its vintage, this nevertheless finishes with fresh lime and a fine sense of vivacity, all in all a good example of how judicious de-acidification could succeed. I would plan on drinking within 2-3 years. (Oct 2011)"

87 points Peter Moser (International Wine Cellar): "Yellow green. The nose features green apple and greengage plum spiced with white pepper and fresh tobacco. Pineapple and pear fruit are supported by a refreshing acid structure. The moderately persistent finish features pear and peppery nuances. Drink to 2015. (Apr 2011)"
'Best Buy', Wine & Spirits: "This is ripe and tropical in feel, with a creamy texture and rich depth of fruit. It's unusually full in body for an entry-level veltliner. (Apr 2011)"
Producer notes: "Per Due comes from a single vineyard called Wolfsgraben, the "wolf's ditch'. This vineyard was first documented in 1284, it is quite unique with a marked micro climate and a rich, deep loamy soil. Light, almost translucent in color. Fresh and fruity nose. Beautifully balanced palate, with rich fruits and good acidity, peppery with minerals. This is the perfect summer wine or serve as an aperitif on its own."

Bill Mayer (The Age of Riesling): "The delightful and effervescent Ludwig Hiedler makes full-bodied, intense wine with plenty of 'schmaltz' as they have been described, and lots of character. I tend to like his medium-bodied wines the best, and his Thal, a mysterious vineyard I've never seen and which, I think, may actually be a wine from several small plots blended together, is one of my favorites. The good news is that prices haven't increased all that much, and this is one of the best values in high quality Veltliner you will find. I love its juicy, suave body and flavor."

This is a very versatile wine at the table and will pair wonderfully with vegetable dishes. (Apr 2011)"
Terry Theise: "CORE-LIST WINE. Very deep loess covered with red sand give what I think is Hiedler’s signature GrüVe, the one that is most a 'Hiedler wine.' This ’09 has class and character and a detailed fragrance, but it’s the palate that’s really amazing, with texture and length and spice and a lovely shoot-fire smokiness; a grown-up grace; it made me think of the ’99 Champagnes, in fact; a hugely long finish like green beans and lardons and roasted wheat."

Terry Theise: "CORE-LIST WINE. Loess and red sand here, and this wine is made from old vines of 60+ years. For me it’s the callingcard wine of this estate, embodying Ludwig’s spirit perfectly. The ‘11 is a lovely superripe GV; flowering fields and vetiver and smoky paprika, yet there’s still a braised fennel or leek-y greenness in the middle, all surging toward a creamy spicy finish, with a note of the crisp skin of a perfectly cooked fish."
89 points Wine Spectator: "Ruby grapefruit flavors are well-defined in this crisp, rich white, featuring touches of creaminess and hints of lentil and curry, with chalky notes on the finish. Drink now through 2018. 60 cases imported. (2013)"
89 points and 'Year's Best Austrian Wines,' Wine & Spirits: "This has a sweetness of fruit that brings to mind white peaches as well as a vegetal note that recalls spring’s first peas. The acidity gives it a clean edge, the cut to handle the bacon you might add to a bowl of those peas. (Apr 2013)"

Goldberg is the signature Blaufränkisch of the J.Heinrich estate. Made from vines Johann’s parents and grandparents planted in 1947, Goldberg is among the most revered old vineyards in Deutschkreutz. The 2009 vintage consisted of decent rainfall in early summer, healthy flowering, a hot and mostly dry August allowing sugars to develop gradually, and by harvest warm days and cool nights helped maintain acidity and aromatics without compromising ripeness. Deep dark and ruby red in the glass, the weight is refreshingly light. Spice and wet stone minerality dominate the palate while red plum, violets and a hint of licorce add wonderful tertiary notes. Pair with gamey pasta dishes, lamb, venison, and anything savory with a mineral edginess.
