Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue practice noninterventionist winemaking techniques, and their pure, crisp wines are an unadulterated reflection of each of their terroirs. This wine reveals a rich nose of tropical fruit with toasted notes that follows in the mouth with surprisingly vibrant structure, excellent balance and very good to excellent length.

87 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "...bright, bracing lemon and lime and borderline grassiness are accompanied by cooling mint, attractively pungent caraway, and a palpable sense of extract and chalky minerality... this gets high marks for sheer tenacity and for its light bulb-like, wake-up personality. (Aug 2008)"

Robb Report: "[$85/375ml list] Outside of Tokaj or Bordeaux, no producer has produced late-harvest wine with greater consistency than Dolce. This lavishly textured, dense wine remains surprisingly light on the tongue, despite its rich flavors of lemon meringue, coconut custard, and torrone."
Wine Enthusiast: "The key to the sweet wine of Dolce, a subsidiary of Oakville-based Far Niente Winery, is its bounty of botrytis. Winemaker Greg Allen explains that Sémillon's thin skin and low acidity make it susceptible to the so-called 'noble rot' and account for Dolce's sweetness. 'We Encourage botrytis development by growing these huge canopies to trap humidity and to protect the fruit from sunlight,' he says. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: "Dolce is grown in the cool foggy Coombsville area to the east of the city of Napa. It is here that the fruit can get to full ripeness before getting concentrated by the actions of botrytis cenerea, a mold long associated with the world's greatest dessert wines. We only harvest the best clusters or parts of clusters. Of course, this means that most of the grapes we grow never make it to the winery. The resulting juice is so concentrated that yeast have a hard time fermenting. Greg, our winemaker, often is following fermentations well into March or April of the next year. He then oversees their slow development as the wine ages for 30 months before he determines the final blend and bottles the wine. Part of the magic of Dolce, beyond its ability to give hedonistic pleasure, is its ability to age and improve for many many years."

Producer notes: "The Blanc de Blancs offers abundant aromas and flavors recalling sweet apples, pears and citrus. The three years of aging has contributed a pronounced classic toastiness with accents of roasted almonds and minerals. The palate is creamy and long, and the style is elegant, dry and crisp, with great complexity. Only 1,000 cases produced."

Importer notes: "An excellent, food versatile wine in a medium dry style, made by winemaker Fritz Hasselbach of Gunderloch, a leading winery in Germany receiving 3 perfect 100 point scores from the Wine Spectator for their extremely rare dessert wines. In this wine, aromas of peaches and apricots mingle in your glass. Beautiful fruit mixed with mineral characteristics will excite your palate and it will finish dry and refreshing. 11.5% alcohol."

In the mouth, its vivacious aromas combine with supple and markedly fruity elements. This pairs well with smoked fish such as eel or salmon, seafood and oysters. Also the ideal partner for goat cheese."

Pellehaut, from the Roman "pila haut" (high point), is owned by the Béraut family. Gaston Béraut oversees the domaine, which also includes cattle, wheat and sunflowers. One son, Martin, is the vineyard manager, commonly found between the vines. The other, Mathieu, is the winemaker. Mathieu studied under Yves Grassa at nearby Château de Tariquet, as well as at Château Beycheville in Bordeaux and, during one harvest in the nineties, was Jim Clendenon' right-hand man at Au Bon Climat in Southern California. Ampelomeryx is a blend of Chardonnay and Petit Manseng, fermented and aged in new oak.

Joelle Thomson (Mindfood): "Everything you want in a pinot gris but don't usually get is abundant in this zappy little 13.9% alcohol pinot blanc. Firm acids, full body, an off-dry style that is luscious and flavoursome as well as varietally characteristic. You know the sentiment 'you had to be there'? This is a wine you have to taste. (Sep 2008)"
Michael Cooper's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2010: "Grown in the Waihopai Valley, the 2007 vintage was hand-picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Pale gold, it is fleshy and smooth, with ripe, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, showing very good depth and complexity, and a dry finish. Ready."
Producer notes: "Pale gold. Candied orange peel; clove, cinnamon, mace; a pungent honey note, like miel des forets; marmalade, baked apricot; brioche. Powerful on the entry, broad and rich -- orange flan, spice cake -- but crisp acidity and brisk minerality quickly follow, girdling the ample flesh of the wine. 550 cases produced."

4 stars, Michael Cooper's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2010: "The 2007 vintage was hand-picked at Rapaura, fermented with indigenous yeasts and less-aged for eight months. It's a light (11 per cent alcohol), medium style (34 grams/litre of residual sugar) with strong, ripe, citrusy flavours, finely balanced for current enjoyment."
Producer notes: "Pale white gold. Fresh, and ripe; comice pear, white peach, red delicious apple; lifted and floral - honeysuckle, alyssum, cherry blossom; wet stone. Compact and juicy, flavours of ripe pear, red apple and talc; lightly sweet floral notes play through the phenolic architecture of the wine; apt balance of acid and sugar, so that the sweetness seems to disappear on the long, minerally finish. Production 350 cases."

Producer notes: "Light straw/gold. Initially somewhat closed; then still strict, but expressive: dried apricot, mandarin peel, quince, and cooking apple; also crushed rock, and a balsam/sandalwood note. Dense, introverted, with chalky phenolics and great mineral grip; an unusual kind of balance, less fulcrum (counterpoise of acid and sugar) than gyroscope -- internal components whirring in independent equilibrium; exciting for the dynamism, the energy this creates. Production: 85 cases."
Michael Cooper's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2010: "Hand-picked at Rapaura, the 2007 vintage was fermented with indigenous yeasts in tanks and old oak casks. Mouthfilling and dryish (9 grams/litre of residual sugar), it's a fleshy, very individual wine, not highly scented, but generous, ripe and well-rounded."

Importer notes: "An estate reflecting the image of an ever-changing Jura and family enterprise that was created in the early '40s by Désiré Rolet. A native vineyard consisting of 60 hectares distributed over the best hills of the Arbois and Côtes du Jura AOC vineyards, the Rolet Estate is the second largest winegrowing estate in the Jura. Tasting Notes: Clear and brilliant color reflecting pale green glints, which denote the freshness of the vintage. White flower and apple aromas. The mouth balances fullness with acidity, and the palate confirms what the nose predicts. Finally, the wine clings to the mouth for a full finish. It pairs well with appetizers and fish entrees. Fermented and matured for 18 months in barrels in order to bring out the specific personality of the Côtes du Jura terroir; a very particular terroir that characterizes the wine with notes of gunflint and almond. 100% Chardonnay."

A native vineyard consisting of 60 hectares distributed over the best hills of the Arbois and Côtes du Jura AOC vineyards, the Rolet Estate is the second largest winegrowing estate in the Jura. Tasting Notes: Pretty, pale color with green glints; fine bubbles that rise slowly yet with persistence. The nose is delicate and discrete, smelling of white flowers and hawthorn. The mouth has a solid finish with some vivacity, lacks bitterness, and is full-bodied, pleasant and delicate. This is an all-occasion wine and can be enjoyed as an aperitif, at the end of a meal or any time day or night. Chardonnay 54%, Savagnin 23%, Poulsard 23%."

Sommelier Journal: "Lots of California winemakers are talking about changing their style to feature lower alcohol and less oak. Stony Hill started building California's reputation for Chardonnay nearly 50 years ago, and its approach has never changed: careful handling of the fruit and hands-off winemaking. In this version, the purity and depth of character that come only from older vines will impress even the most diehard white Burgundy fans. (1/31/11)"
New York Times: "A Chablis-like chardonnay with no oak -- a somewhat atypical wine in today’s supercharged chardonnay world. (5/21/10)"
Producer notes: "'A lot more Frenchness,' says Mike Chelini of our 2007 Chardonnay, calling to mind a complex blend of fruit flavors and a notable mineral component from the depths of the soil. These are old world qualities you would expect to find in Burgundian whites, and yet they also describe the classic Stony Hill style with hints of green apple, honeydew melon and peaches in the nose and at the first sip. A flinty note follows from our Spring Mountain terroir. This is a rich, multi-dimensional wine, very aromatic, with notable acidity and low pH. It offers a big mouth feel, subtle power, and a long, long finish."

The Les Clos parcel comes from old vines planted on clay-limestone soil that gives this wine a great minerality. Vincent ages this wine in barrels which gives it more aromatic complexity, with notes of honey and acacia mingling with notes of citrus zest. The flavors are pure and off-dry (r.s. 21 mg/L), with a liveliness and freshness. Nice length bringing forth hints of spice, and a touch of salinity and sweetness.
