90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "($36 list; 100% tempranillo) Inky ruby. Extremely ripe nose offers powerful scents of roasted cherry and plum, along with dark chocolate and smoky herbs. The port-like qualities carry onto the palate, which offers sweet, deeply concentrated dark fruit compote, espresso and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes with a wallop of ripe plum and impressive length. A bit extreme for my taste, but delivers undeniably impressive impact and richness. (Sep/Oct 2008)"
Importer notes: "The Allende Rioja, a 100% Tempranillo cuvee, was barrel fermented in a mix of new and used French oak, remained in barrel for 13 months, and was bottled unfiltered. The wine is inky purple-colored and has a superb nose of pain grille, mineral, violets, cranberry, and blueberry. The youthful palate reveals layers of fruit, ripe tannin, and excellent balance. The wine merits another 3-4 years of bottle age and should drink well through 2020."

97 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Vina El Pison comes from a single Tempranillo vineyard planted in 1945 on pure limestone. The wine was aged for 16-18 months in new French oak. It has an ethereal nose found only in the greatest wines. Toasty oak, wood smoke, truffle, wild blueberry, and blackberry liqueur are striking and complex. This is followed by a layered wine with an elegant personality that still has plenty of grip, breadth, and length. It is a tour de force that will provide pleasure over the next 20-25 years. (Feb 2008)"
97 points Peñín Guide: "(tempranillo 100%). Colour: deep cherry. Nose: cedar wood, dark chocolate, ripe fruit, complex, expressive, powerful. Palate: powerful, flavourful, complex, fruity. (2009)"
95 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "[$330 list] Glass-staining purple. Darker fruits on the nose than the Pagos Viejos, offering a heady bouquet of blackberry, mulberry, smoky bacon, anise and mocha. Explodes on the palate, showing sweet, concentrated cherry and dark berry flavors and exotic Asian spice and candied floral qualities. The tannins are completely absorbed by the fruit, which is enlivened by slow-mounting minerals. Finishes on an expansive dark fruit liqueur note, with excellent clarity and persistence. I couldn't get this off my palate, not that I tried very hard. (Sep/Oct 2008)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "[$100 list] Toast and cola notes frame rich plum and fig flavors in this concentrated red, which is bright and polished, though there's depth under the muscular tannins. Impressive in the modern style. Best from 2011 through 2021. (6/30/10)"
93 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Torre Muga is opaque purple-colored with an appealing nose of smoke, pencil lead, Asian spices, balsamic, and blackberry. A bit lean on the palate but with savory flavors, it will not make old bones but is approachable now. (Jun 2010)"
93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(75% tempranillo, 15% mazuelo and 10% graciano) Opaque ruby. Musky, complex and powerfully scented, with floral-accented red and dark berry aromas, complemented by notes of spicecake and minerals. Lush, sweet raspberry and mulberry flavors are given spine by juicy acidity and pick up a bitter chocolate note with air. Dusty tannins add grip to a very long, smoky finish, which leaves sweet red fruit and floral pastille notes behind. This was raised in all new French oak after fermentation in large American oak vats, but the wood is an afterthought. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Among the world’s bruising, full-bodied wines, Torre Muga is a flag bearer. This vintage offers cola, pepper, coffee and sweet blackberry fruit aromas, and the palate is tannic, acidic, grabby and full of life. Flavors of blackberry, dark plum and spice are pure as they come, with espresso on the finish. Let this sit another few years to allow the fierce tannins to mellow; best 2012-2017. (Oct 2010)"
92 points Peñín Guide: "(tempranillo, mazuelo, graciano). Colour: cherry, garnet rim. Nose: ripe fruit, spicy, creamy oak, toasty, complex, dark chocolate. Palate: powerful, flavourful, toasty, powerful tannins, roasted-coffee aftertaste. (2011)"

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$54 list] Sensational RdD Reserva with dry, smoky, elegant aromas and then a super-juicy, fresh, finely etched palate with composed cola, cherry, raspberry and more. This wine exhibits merit after merit; it’s complex yet easy to like. Really excellent for the money. Drink 2011-2018. (Oct 2010)"
93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Opaque ruby. A sexy, complex bouquet displays powerful black raspberry and cherry-cola scents, with complicating notes of dried rose and violet and a hint of spicecake. Brighter red fruits appear on the palate, with juicy acidity adding lift and focus. Seductively silky and sweet, with excellent finishing clarity and spicy persistence. There's nothing to get in the way of drinking this wine now, although it will reward at least another five years of patience, at a minimum. (Sep/Oct 2010)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Solid and dense, this red is a bit closed now, with deep but muted flavors of plum, currant, toast and mineral. Balanced and well-integrated. Needs time. Best after 2011. 2,250 cases made. (9/30/10)"
91 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2006 Reserva spent 18 months in French oak. Aromas of pain grille, mineral, Asian spices, incense, and assorted black fruits, lead to a layered, dense, rich wine that will continue to blossom with another 3-4 years of bottle age. This lengthy effort has a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2026. (Jun 2010)"
91 points Wine & Spirits: "Dominated at first by overt warmth, this quickly reveals more balanced scents of ripe cherries, spice and light coffee notes. While it is big, the flavors are met by commanding acidity that carries them to the end. (Jun 2010)"
