99 points Robert Parker: "A spectacular Latour, the 1996 may be the modern day clone of the 1966, only riper. This vintage, which is so variable in Pomerol, St.-Emilion, and Graves, was fabulous for the late-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon of the northern Medoc because of splendid weather in late September and early October. An opaque purple color is followed by phenomenally sweet, pure aromas of cassis infused with subtle minerals. This massive offering possesses unreal levels of extract, full body, intensely ripe, but abundant tannin, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Classic and dense, it displays the potential for 50-75 years of longevity. Although still an infant, it would be educational to taste a bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2050."
96 ponts Wine Spectator: "Fabulous aromas of crushed raspberries, plums and blackberries. Mind-blowing nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and a long caressing finish. Hard not to drink now, but leave it alone.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2010. (2007)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Saturated ruby-red. Dark berries, violet, licorice and a note of torrefaction. Explosive, pure flavors are almost too big for the mouth. Finishes with big, sweet tannins and expanding, exhilarating flavors of pruneaux and crystallized dark berries. Perfectly integrated oak. A great Latour. (May/Jun 1999)"
95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted at the Grand Cru Classé opening dinner at Haut-Brion. Sitting next to me, Frederic Engerer rather scorned the ’96, commenting that it would have been a better wine if made nowadays. I think he is being a bit mean. The nose is initially very conservative with sultry aromas of blackberry, tar, cedar and graphite, similar in profile to the 2003 but leaner and less intense. The palate is medium-bodied with great definition and freshness, perhaps a little 'dusty' compared to recent vintages with a drier vintage than might be accepted nowadays. Still, it has a delightful touch of smoke and black truffle on the austere finish. Very fine indeed. Tasted June 2011."

95 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Réserve Liesse d’Harbonville is Ployez-Jacquemart’s Tête de Cuvée and it is a fantastic example of the 1996 vintage. The wine is barrel fermented four to five year old Burgundy barrels and does not go through malolactic fermentation. It is made from a blend of seventy percent chardonnay and thirty percent red grapes, and then is aged a minimum of ten years in the cellar prior to disgorgement and release. The bouquet on the 1996 is deep, complex and truly stunning, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of apple, nutskin, tangerine, brioche, beautifully complex minerality and a topnote of citrus zest. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite intensely flavored, with a great core of fruit, refined mousse, snappy acids and great length and grip on the complex and very intense finish. A terrific bottle of bubbly that is still on its way up and should prove to be one of the reference point wines of this great Champagne vintage.. 2010-2025+. (Jul/Aug 2010)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "[$165 list] Mouthwatering, with finely detailed texture and a harmonious array of Fuji apple, pineapple, vanilla, brioche and grated coconut flavors. A mineral base note drives this home and lingers on the finish of coffee liqueur. Drink now through 2021. 80 cases imported. (12/15/11)"
93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Pale gold with an energetic bead. Explosively perfumed aroma of pure blood orange, yellow apple and smoky minerals. Deep, palate-staining apple and orange flavors grab the palate and hold on tight, gaining serious stony bite with air. Strikingly pure and concentrated, featuring expansive citrus and orchard fruit flavors underscored by subtle smokiness and dusty citrus pith character. Already a knockout, this should be even better with another five or six years of aging. (Nov/Dec 2007)"
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The house’s tete de cuvee 1996 Brut Liesse d’Harbonville is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot (Noir and Meunier) aged exclusively in French oak, but with no malolactic fermentation. This is a gorgeous bottling that achieves marvelous richness in its ripe apricots, smoke, minerals, brioche, honey and sweet toasted oak, all while maintaining the acidity and verve that keeps the wine in balance. The warm, toasty aromas and flavors are beautifully balanced in this extroverted, lively wine. This is a terrific Champagne from Ployez-Jacquemart. This bottle was disgorged September, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016. (Dec 2008)"

90 points Wine Spectator: "There's an honesty in this pure, clean and authentic-tasting Pinot Noir. Mineral, blood-orange, blackberry character takes off unhindered by fancy oak; for aficionados of the real McCoy. (7/31/99)"
88 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "This is quite bright aromatically and it remains completely primary with an earthy mix of red and black pinot fruit giving way to precise and sweet middle weight flavors that possess good punch if not great density that culminate in solid length where only a touch of acidity pokes through. Unlike some '96s, this remains reasonably well balanced and while this could be approached now with pleasure, I would be inclined to wait another 2 to 3 years before consuming in earnest. In short, this is a solid if not truly great effort for its level. Drink: Try from 2008+. (Jul 2005)"

96+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 1996, one of the estate’s best, takes things to another level. It shows an outrageous, well-delineated nose of fresh roses, minerals and menthol followed waves of dark fruit and licorice flavors that are just beginning to show the signs of early maturity, with exceptional freshness, length, and harmony. This opens beautifully in the glass, taking on an almost Burgundian elegance. A wine to marvel over. It is hard to resist this now, but it will be even better in another 3-5 years, and age gracefully for another decade, and probably more. Drink after 2008. (Apr 2007)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Full red-ruby. Profound, multidimensional aromas of cherry, raspberry, cassis, lead pencil, camphor, mocha, tobacco and exotic spices. Extremely rich and full in the mouth but with superb clarity of flavor and grip. A Barolo of great breadth and depth. Firm acids and rich, spreading tannins are thoroughly buffered by rich fruit. Extremely long and lively on the back end. (Nov/Dec 2000)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderful aromas of freshly cut roses, with blackberry, strawberry and cream. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins, good acidity and a fresh, fruity finish. Excellent now, but will improve with age.--1996 Piedmont retrospective. Drink now. 1,100 cases made. (2007)"
