94 points Robert Parker: "The 1994 white Hermitage is one of the most seductive, perfumed, multi-layered, and profoundly textured white Hermitages I have tasted from Chave. The unctuous texture, and superb nose of honeyed white flowers, and minerals are followed by a wine of exceptional depth, richness, and balance. It should drink splendidly well for 4-5 years, then close completely, not to re-emerge for a decade. It will keep for 20-30+ years. (Oct 1996)"
93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 1994 Hermitage Blanc from Jean-Louis Chave is outstanding, and still a few years from really beginning to hit on all cylinders. The bouquet today is still a tad discreet, but beautifully complex, as it offers up a fine mélange of pear, lemon oil, lanolin, notes of straw and a lovely base of chalky soil tones. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and blossoming nicely from its period of hibernation, as it delivers excellent mid-palate depth, bright acids, lovely focus and a long, complex and soil-driven finish of excellent grip. A terrific vintage of Chave Blanc. 2008-2030+. (Nov/Dec 2008)"

'Top 100 Wine of 1997 (#37)' and 93 points Wine Spectator: "A luscious Lafite that is silky and elegant with layers of wonderful violet, berry, cherry and chocolate flavors. It's full-bodied, with racy, refined tannins and good length. Drinkable now, but best from 1999 and through another decade. (1/31/97)"

96 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "[$106 list] The 1994 Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva has an elegant bouquet with light red cherries, orange blossom, mahogany bureau and burnt buttered toast. The palate has a meaty, savory entry with crisp tannins and racy acidity. It displays superb structure towards the finish where one finds notes of bitter lemon, orange peel and sage. Delicious! Drink now-2030+. (Aug 2012)"
94 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "($106 list; 75% tempranillo, 15% garnacha, 5% graciano and 5% mazuelo): Full red. Wild, highly perfumed aromas of candied cherry, plum, anise, cured tobacco, Asian spices and vanilla, with smoke and allspice nuances. Sappy, seamless and expansive, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and suggestions of candied rose and spicecake. In the glass, takes on weight with no loss of vivacity. Silky tannins build on and carry through a very long, smoke- and mineral-accented finish. No way I'd have guessed that this was an 18-year-old wine. (Sep 2012)"
Producer notes: "Tempranillo (75%), Garnacha (15%), Mazuelo and Graciano (10%), all from our own vineyards. 1994 recorded in the Rioja as an Excellent vintage. Colour: Vibrant red leading slightly towards amber. Nose: Light fresh texture with notes of vanilla and dried berry aromas. Taste: Rich, very dry, smooth, developed. Firm tannins and balance. Ageing period in barrels: 9 years, being racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites. Alcohol 12%. Food matching: Goes well with all meat dishes irrespective of their preparation. 1,500 cases produced."

95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Saturated medium ruby to the rim. Multidimensional, intensely spicy nose combines black plum, black cherry, black raspberry, chocolate mint, coffee and cedar. Fat, thick, dense and impressively deep; penetrating vinosity gives the currently austere black cherry and menthol flavors superb clarity. Powerfully structured and extremely unevolved. Finishes with superb persistence and toothcoating tannins that spread out over the palate. Will be a great Monte Bello. (Sep/Oct 2000)"
95 points Robert Parker: no tasting note given. (Nov 2006)

93 points Robert Parker: "One of California's finest Sauvignons is consistently produced by Spottswoode Winery. With respect to the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon, a beautifully scented nose of cassis, lead pencil, high quality new oak, and spice is followed by a wine with striking richness and balance. This dark ruby/purple-colored Cabernet possesses fabulous concentration, yet it never comes across as heavy or out of sync. A gloriously made, elegant yet powerfully flavored wine, it is accessible, yet capable of lasting for another 12-20 years. This sensational Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits the more complex, elegant side of California winemaking. Bravo! (Dec 1997)"
93 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "One of the measures of a great vintage is how well its middle-rated wines hold up. We know that the vintage's superstars, the Shafer Hillside and the Phelps Insignia are maturing into the dominant wines of the entire decade, and this wine is growing in status as it ages. It has just entered the period at which real complexity will begin to develop, and it has done so with both streamlined fruit and racy, solid structure still intact. This is a wine that is going to bet better and better. (Apr 2007)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "Pleasantly balanced, rich and polished, it's in perfect drinking shape now, with well-defined currant and black cherry fruit, smooth, integrated tannins and a long, complex, elegant aftertaste that gives it a sense of grace and finesse. Finishes with a nice touch of cigar box.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. (11/15/04)"
Stephen Brook (The Finest Wines of California): "Slightly reserved black-cherry-and-plum nose. Concentrated, juicy, and succulent, and still fresh, ripe tannins and outstanding balance. While ready to drink, it will surely age further. Very long. (2011)"

'Top 100 Wine of 1997 (#15)' and 95 points Wine Spectator: "A great surprise for the vintage. Displays fabulous concentration and complex character with it's layers of very sweet fruit, chocolate and cherry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins. Long finish with plenty of grip. Beautiful wine. Best after 2008. (4/30/97)"
94 points Robert Parker: "One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-colored wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, licorice-scented and flavored raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port. (Oct 1996)"
5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "...the most intensely dark of all the Symington '94s; typical resinous nose, lovely flavour, perfect balance, good length. Drink: now-2030. (2007)"
