Producer notes: "This limited reserve Semillon reflects Myron and Alice Nightingale's 25-year study of botrytis cinerea. Under ideal conditions, the botrytis concentrated the grape's varietal character and imparted the complexity and nuances synonymous with the rare "pourriture noble." Sugar prior to fermentation: 36 gm/100ml. Residual sugar: 10.3 gm/100ml. Total acidity: 80 gm/100ml. Alcohol 12.0% by volume."

93 points Robert Parker: "A strong effort for this estate, the 1982 exhibits sweet aromas of plums, licorice, earth, and flowers. The tannins are slightly rustic, but the sweetness of the fruit, the broad expansive mouthfeel, and the wine’s full maturity represent a classic Bordeaux at the top of its game. Enjoy it over the next 5-8 years. (Jun 2009)"
4 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Ruby, intense; fragrant, spicy, eucalyptus nose; sweet, mouthfilling, glorious flavour. Last tasted April 1998."

95 points Robert Parker: "This 1982 is still displaying a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue as well as a stunning set of aromatics consisting of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, licorice, and spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a silky finish. It appears to have hit full maturity, but it can easily be held in a cold cellar for another 10+ years. (Jun 2009)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "Built for aging. Very dark ruby in color, with a garnet rim. Dried flower and berry aromas. Full-bodied and very solid, with masses of fruit and tannins. Still has plenty of time to go.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2000. (11/30/98)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Full medium red. Spicy aromas of redcurrant, strawberry and plum. Ripe, lush and gentle, with a mineral character contributing to the wine impression of structure and leavening the wine's sweetness. Very long, ripely tannic finish shows slightly elevated alcohol but comes across as firm nonetheless. Drink now through 2020. (Jul/Aug 2002)"
18/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Fullish colour. Just a little sign of maturity. Ample and classy on the nose. Rich and succulent. Lots of depth. A great deal of class here. Full-bodied, rich, ripe and concentrated. This is very lovely. Fine plus. (2004)"

96 points Robert Parker: "...one of the all-time great Ducrus, probably matched or eclipsed by several recent vintages (i.e., 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2008). The 1982 is still 5-8 years away from full maturity, but it exhibits a dense ruby/plum/garnet color to the rim as well as a sweet perfume of forest floor, spice box, cedar, and copious quantities of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully pure with sweet tannins, this wine has aged more slowly than I initially expected. It is the finest Ducru Beaucaillou produced after the 1961 and before the 2003. (Jun 2009)"
18.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Full colour. Little sign of maturity. Classy and fruity. Very good grip. Rich, fat and composed. Very lovely fruit. Long, harmonious and classy. Very fine. Drink soon. (2004)"
4 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Classic cedar cigar box nose that opened up deliciously; touch of liquorice; rich but tannic. Last tasted Sept 2003."

95 points Robert Parker: "Complex aromatics of scorched earth, smoked herbs, and sweet red and black currants are followed by a full-bodied, silky-textured wine, but I have never felt this offering has possessed the concentration, texture, or multidimensional personality found in such vintages as 1989, 1990, and more recent years. Nevertheless, this is essentially splitting hairs as the 1982 remains a superb Haut Brion. Seemingly less evolved than the 1990, it is capable of another 20-30 years of longevity. Perhaps there is something in reserve that will reveal itself in the next decade. Drink now-2035. (Jun 2009)"
5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Impressive colour; sweet, rich, velvety, fleshy, 'iron fist in velvet glove'. Last tasted Oct 2005."
18/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Fullish, mature colour. Delicate but very elegant nose. No great power though. Medium-full body. This is fully ready. A fine but not a great wine. Rich and plump. Still plenty of vigour. Long, complex and classy. Fine plus. Now-2010. (2004)"

95+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "I have had three or four utterly brilliant bottles of the ’82 Mascarello in the last couple of years, and also a bottle or two that was oddly mute and masking the brilliant core of pure fruit that made the stunning bottles so compelling. I have to assume that the less generous bottles were simply too young, but it could also be a sign of bottle variation. The last three bottles however were utterly stellar. Most recently, the wine showed magnificently at the Rare Wine Company’s tasting in San Francisco, as it soared from the glass in a blaze of pure red cherries, pomegranate, orange zest, truffles, anise, woodsmoke, delicate tarry tones, pungent roses, great minerality and a topnote of fresh oregano and thyme. On the palate the wine is fullbodied, focused and tangy, with stunning purity and sweetness at the core, melting tannins, brilliant framing acidity, and a magnificent, long, complex and utterly transparent finish. Just a magical wine from the master of traditional Barolo. The ’82 Bartolo is certainly a very lovely drink today, but just a few more years patience will be rewarded with an even better bottle. 2015-2050. (Sep/Oct 2007)"
94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Mascarello’s 1982 Barolo was phenomenal. Still deeply-colored, this powerful wine offered terrific depth and compelling notes of crushed flowers, spices and dark red fruits. (Oct 2007)"

100 points Robert Parker: "One of the monumental wines of the last century is the 1982 Pichon Lalande. Since bottling, it has flirted with perfection, and was a sprinter out of the gate, which gave rise to questions about how quickly it would begin its decline. However, at age 27, it retains all its glossy, rich, flamboyant cassis fruit, chocolaty, berry jam-like notes, and plenty of earthy, foresty flavors. This is a full-bodied, extravagantly rich Pichon Lalande seemingly devoid of acidity and tannin, but the wine is incredibly well-balanced and pure. It is an amazing effort! (Jun 2009)"
100 points Pierre Rovani (Wine Advocate): "Even more spectacular, and also the best bottle of this wine I've ever tasted, the 6-Liter 1982 Château Pichon-Comtesse de Lalande is a seductive masterpiece... Its vibrant, sumptuous fruit explodes from the glass revealing copious oak-laced black cherries, blackberries, cassis, balsa, and bacon. Velvety-textured and full-bodied, it coats the palate with innumerable waves of spicy black fruits. Brilliant! (Oct 2005)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "A voluptuous red. Very dark ruby-garnet. Aromas of currant, meat and berries. Full-bodied and velvety, with lovely ripe berry and earth and a long, ripe finish of caressing texture. This has always been a great wine. I marvel at it each time I taste it.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. (11/30/98)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Deep red-ruby color. Liqueur-like aromas of currant, cedar, lead pencil, truffle and smoked meat. Magically sweet and silky in the mouth, with superb depth of flavor and a complete absence of rough edges. A huge wine with utterly compelling sweetness and great terroir character. Powerful if somewhat unrestrained. Finishes ripely tannic, long and sweet. Many tasters still rank this among their two or three favorites of the vintage. Drink now to 2015. (Jul/Aug 2002)"
18.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Full, rich, mature colour. Ripe and rich and aromatic on the nose. One bottle a bit more evolved than the other. The firmer bottle is rich and full-bodied and with plenty of depth and quality... Very lovely ripe, rich fruit... Long and complex and very fine. Now-2015+. (2004)"
