95 points Wine Spectator: "[$85 list] Rich, but pure and incredibly focused, with a laser beam of chamomile and quince cutting through the core of dried pineapple, white peach, Cavaillon melon and green plum. The finish has buried minerality, gorgeous mouthfeel and superb length. Drink now through 2030. 1,500 cases made. (9/30/11)"
95 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "With so much intensity, botrytis and concentration, this is going to be impressive. It is still very young, at a closed stage, but the ripe currant as well as the honey dominate. Great wine. (Jun 2011)"
92 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Linden (i.e. basswood) honey and lily perfume; candied lime and grapefruit peel; quince preserves and pineapple scent the Baumard 2008 Quarts de Chaume and inform a glycerin-rich, oily, soothingly-unctuous palate that preserves elements of fresh citrus and salinity sufficient to call forth salivation and at least go some way toward offsetting what is for now extreme sweetness. The sheer persistence of flavor here is remarkable. This is likely to be a very long-lived (20+ year) and perhaps eventually an extraordinary wine. But for now it does not approach the complexity not to mention the sense of balance exhibited by the corresponding Coteaux du Layon Sainte Catherine. (Aug 2010)"

98 points Robert Parker: "Of course, Michel Chapoutier produces some very limited spectacular dessert wines. The 2004 Ermitage Vin de Paille, which has a deep amber color and smells like black truffle oil intermixed with orange marmalade and honeysuckle, is an amazingly rich wine that has put on considerable weight since I tasted it last year. This is a legendary wine that should age for 50-75 or more years. This wine cuvee has between 100 and 159 grams of residual sugar, and the finished alcohol is approximately 15%. (Apr 2007)"

99 points Robert Parker: "An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity. Certainly it is one of the richest Yquems I have ever tasted, with 50-100 years of potential longevity. An awesome Yquem! Anticipated maturity: 2003-2050+. (Apr 1999)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "Truly superb. Yellow with a gold hue. Intense spice, honey and dried orange peel aromas.Full-bodied, very sweet and very alive. Vibrant Sauternes that goes on and on on the palate. Doesn't get much better than this. Beautiful now,but wait.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2010. (8/31/00)"
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Full-blown aromas of caramel, toffee, honey, white chocolate and damp earth; slightly Tokaj-like. Hugely concentrated and layered in the mouth; extraordinary sweetness cut by harmonious acidity. As with the best vintages of Yquem, the finish goes on for a minute or more. Stains, and stuns, the palate. A huge wine, surprisingly extravagant on the nose (earlier bottles have been far more restrained) but completely unevolved and a bit musclebound on the palate. May ultimately merit a higher score. (Jul/Aug 1998)"
4-5 stars Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Bottled in 1994. The biggest crop since 1893. Most recently, at Yquem: bright amber-gold with orange highlights; sweet, rich, orange blossom fragrance becoming increasingly caramelly; medium-sweet, rich texture, nutty flavour though lacking the opulence and rich sensuality of the '89. Long life. Last tasted Aug 2006."

93 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of honey, dried pineapple and botrytis spice. Full-bodied, very sweet and very powerful, with loads of dried fruit and sweetness on the finish. Lots of clove and orange peel. Same quality as the 2001. Best after 2013. (3/31/08)"
93 points Bettane & Desseauve's Guide to the Wines of France: "(Sweet White; 2015 up to 2025). Very diverse aromatics, a classic foundation of apricot and yellow fruit, beautiful acidity. A long, fresh, very well made wine. (2011)"
92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2005 Doisy-Védrines was a very pleasant surprise, as I do not taste the wines from this property with anywhere near the frequency that I should, and both vintages that I was served at this tasting were excellent. The 2005 Doisy-Védrines offers up a complex, floral and very stylish nose of pear, orange, intense acacia blossoms, a touch of pastry cream, lovely soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, young and impressively complex right out of the blocks, with a fine core of fruit, lovely balance and impressive length and grip on the finish. Based on this excellent wine and the fine showing of the 2002 at this same tasting, Doisy-Védrines is a property that I need to pay a lot more attention to in the future. An excellent example of the vintage. 2015-2050. (Sep/Oct 2009)"

Robb Report: "[$85/375ml list] Outside of Tokaj or Bordeaux, no producer has produced late-harvest wine with greater consistency than Dolce. This lavishly textured, dense wine remains surprisingly light on the tongue, despite its rich flavors of lemon meringue, coconut custard, and torrone."
Wine Enthusiast: "The key to the sweet wine of Dolce, a subsidiary of Oakville-based Far Niente Winery, is its bounty of botrytis. Winemaker Greg Allen explains that Sémillon's thin skin and low acidity make it susceptible to the so-called 'noble rot' and account for Dolce's sweetness. 'We Encourage botrytis development by growing these huge canopies to trap humidity and to protect the fruit from sunlight,' he says. (Feb 2013)"
Producer notes: "Dolce is grown in the cool foggy Coombsville area to the east of the city of Napa. It is here that the fruit can get to full ripeness before getting concentrated by the actions of botrytis cenerea, a mold long associated with the world's greatest dessert wines. We only harvest the best clusters or parts of clusters. Of course, this means that most of the grapes we grow never make it to the winery. The resulting juice is so concentrated that yeast have a hard time fermenting. Greg, our winemaker, often is following fermentations well into March or April of the next year. He then oversees their slow development as the wine ages for 30 months before he determines the final blend and bottles the wine. Part of the magic of Dolce, beyond its ability to give hedonistic pleasure, is its ability to age and improve for many many years."

95 points and 'Top 100 Wine of 2012 (#53),' Wine Enthusiast: "Ben Ryé is one of the 10 best dessert wines made in Italy. From the sun-drenched island of Pantelleria, this is made using Zibibbo grapes that are air-dried. It’s thickly extracted and syrupy sweet, with intense aromas of apricot, honey and marzipan. The kick of fresh acidity at the end is nothing short of brilliant. Alcohol 14.5%. (Dec 2012)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "An unctuous sweet wine, with melted Turkish apricot, candied orange zest and light, caramel-tinged date notes balanced on a full-bodied, cream-accented frame. The broad finish lingers with fruit and spice. Zibibbo. Drink now through 2025. 500 cases imported. (6/15/13)"
Producer notes: "Grapes: Zibibbo (Moscato d'Alessandria). Complex and ample sweet wine with an outstanding freshness. On the nose intense notes of apricot and peach follewed by sweet sensations of dried figs and honey, aromatic herbs and mineral notes. Food pairing: Its fragrant sweetness makes it a perfect partner for blue cheeses and foie gras. We also recommend it with ricotta-filled desserts or gianduia chocolate. Alcohol 14.5%."

99 points Fine Wine Review: "The Oberhäuser Brücke Eiswein was harvested on 17 January 2012 -- a relatively rare Eiswein in this vintage. Helmut was in Singapore on that day and his son, Cornelius was in Canada. As a result, they had to give instructions for picking over the telephone and a not insignificant cost. But the resulting wine is nothing short of glorious. The wine is crystalline in the nose with pure, light, crystalline essence-of-Riesling flavors on the palate and great length. (Issue #138; 2013)"

Aleatico is a red grape variety often used to produce dessert style wines such as this passito from Costa Toscana. Aleatico wines are characterized by their sweet aromas of roses, berry fruits and lychees. Its relatively high alcohol content of 14.5% is balanced by the grape's natural acidity.

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$60 list] There’s incredible depth of both flavor and texture in this golden icewine from Inniskillin. Initially, it’s rich and creamy on the tongue with notes of honey, waxy florals and apple. Then, bright flashes of acidity bring forth tones of tangerine and Meyer lemon. Long and languorous on the finish, it’s a gorgeous wine all around. (Jul 2011)"
'Bronze Medal,' Decanter: "(9.5% alcohol) Hay, earth, dried apricot and a buttery texture. (Oct 2010)"
Producer notes: "Inniskillin Icewine, recognized as one of the world's great wines, is truly winter's gift to wine lovers. Harvested at the pinnacle of Canada's crisp winter, the grapes are naturally frozen on the vine and picked when the temperature drops to -10°C. Only a few drops of luscious nectar can be squeezed from each bunch, which is then expertly guided through fermentation to achieve the rich and alluring specialty wine known as Icewine. Alcohol 9.5%. Residual sugar: 242 g/L. Total acidity: 10.9 g/L."

Displays rich tropical aromas of papaya, mango and apricot. Bold fruit flavors balanced with fine acidity, concluding with a silky finish.
Not yet reviewed; 2007 vintage rated 89 points by both Wine Spectator andWine Advocate, which wrote: "Bright yellow-gold. Fresh tropical fruit aromas of honeyed papaya and mango, complicated by candied apricot. Lively but harmonious acidity energizes and lifts the silky, very sweet apple, apricot, papaya and orange marmalade flavors. The finish is smooth and long. This is a lighter-style vidal icewine with greater elegance and better balance than the often thicker and more viscous interpretations of vidal from other producers. The grapes were harvested on January 20th and January 25th at between 39.9 and 41 degrees Brix."

Producer notes: "Nectar of the Gods! True Ice Wines are rare in our corner of the world; our unique climate is excellent for capturing the intense sweetness and crisp acidity necessary for top-notch dessert wines. We pick these Red Mountain Chenin Blanc grapes during a deep freeze in order to coax the concentrated juice needed for a dessert wine of this caliber. This involves monitoring vineyard temperatures deep into the night and picking at the right time to ensure optimal flavor and sugar extraction. Tasting Notes: Aromas of honeysuckle and tropical pineapple practically leap out of the glass. The intense sweetness is framed by generous acidity, elegant herbaceous grasses, and ripe apricot. Residual sugar: 27.1%."

96 points Fine Wine Review: "Last, the Geisenheimer Rothenberg Eiswein is a classic Eiswein -- sweet, deep, intense, and exceedingly pure -- essence of Riesling. (Issue #135/136; 2012)"
Terry Theise: "(bona-fide dessert wine) Picked the day after Christmas. This is among the greatest Eisweins I’ve ever tasted. A parfait of wild strawberries and peonies. Evokes memories that aren’t even yours. Something singular and sublime here, as ethereal as meringue, as solid as a loving dream... What I’m feeling tasting this little miracle are the presences of the sublime, and of divinity... Great botrytis wines are more wolfish, more salivary; there is savor in them. Great Eiswein are like an ether of existence in which a hidden sublimity is revealed. Great Eiswein is also in some way absolutely still. It’s like the curve in the road you can’t see beyond, or like the instant between inhale and exhale, calm and yet suspenseful."

It has the sweet scent of lilies of the valley, and the flavors are sweet as well. Then the balance on the finish leaves a clean impression. A fine moscato to serve with fresh fruit. (Dec 2012)"
91 points The Tasting Panel: "Fresh, tangy and crisp with spice, lovely peach and slight spritz; racy and sweet with great acidity and structure."
Producer notes: "Intensely fruity and floral, yet light as air on the palate, the sweetness of the Moscato d’Oro is impeccably balanced by crisp, mouthwatering acidity. This elegant expression of orange blossom, white peach, fresh apricot and rose petal is interwoven with an unmistakable touch of honey.
