An Italian wine from the makers of Hocus Pocus -- Amy Christine and Peter Hunken. "Dalla Pancia" translates as "from the belly", a tongue-in-cheek reference to the extra pounds the owners put on during their extended visit to Italy for this project. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot. 500 cases produced.

Producer notes: "63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Syrah. The 2006 Hill Family Estate Barrel Blend is a combination of mountain Cabernet from Soda Canyon and valley floor Merlot and Cabernet from the Beau Terre Vineyard and from a few other small select vineyards. The mountain grapes have
intensity and finesse and the valley floor grapes have plushy, friendly palates. At the very last, we added 5% of our Syrah which really tied things together. Tasting notes: The nose has a great Wow factor -- unmistakably Napa in its elegance, but with an earthy blackberry, white sage, and vanilla-spice appeal that really makes you want to take a sip. Soft black cherry fruit opens to creamy but powerful blackberry flavors, melting tannins, and a clean easy finish. Alcohol 15.6%. 985 cases produced."

Producer notes: "It is the plot called Tire-savatte which produces this blend, the slopes of which dominate the Thouet valley and the village of Saumoussay. This very concentrated vintage will seduce you by its powerful, aromatic expression blending red macerated fruits with liquorice, vanilla and grilled nuances. Born from a strict selection of mature grapes, this more autumnal vintage reflects all the concentration of the Cabernet Franc vine on the Saumurois soil. All care is given to these grapes, giving it a generous and powerful flavor expressing mellow tannins. Best to decant before serving at room temperature (18-20°C), to allow for its full aromas and opulent structure to best complement red meats, big game birds and chocolate cake. Drink: now-2021."

Importer notes: "An estate reflecting the image of an ever-changing Jura and family enterprise that was created in the early '40s by Désiré Rolet. A native vineyard consisting of 60 hectares distributed over the best hills of the Arbois and Côtes du Jura AOC vineyards, the Rolet Estate is the second largest winegrowing estate in the Jura. Tasting Notes: Deep cherry color. On the nose, Morello cherry carries this vintage. Then strawberry, a little bit of blackberry and the characteristic spiciness of this varietal appear. On the mouth, it has a lot of presence. One must wait patiently for this vintage's complex aromas to develop their warm flavors, reminiscent of cooked strawberry, raspberry and various spicy and peppery nuances. This is a vin de garde to be enjoyed with cooked meats, game and cheese."

Producer notes: "The wine balances ripe, concentrated fruit and a supple texture with the firm, crisp acidity inherent in Barbera. Inviting dark cherry, blackberry and coffee aromas lead to bright, ripe, mouth-filling plum, berry and black cherry flavors with hints of spice, and a touch of almond and chocolate. The balance and acidity make it a versatile wine for a wide range of foods. 520 cases produced. Alcohol 14.9%.
This vineyard is in Wooden Valley, in the southeastern part of the Napa Valley appellation, on benchland near two streams. It mainly produces high quality Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, but a block of Barbera represents an inspired match of climate and clone. The main Barbera clone has small, loose clusters and small berries, in sharp contrast to much of the Barbera grown in California, which typically has much larger clusters and berries. The clone is so obscure it doesn't have a formal name that we know, so we refer to it with the name of the UC Davis professor who maintained it. What we do know is that its grapes translate into consistently deep color and concentration."

Importer notes: "The Cabernet (80%) provides superb structure and ample fruit, all with natural acidity. The equal parts of Petit Verdot and Merlot amount to 10% each and can be viewed as the proper final 'salting' to a finely prepared dish. No 'fairy dust' used here. You'll find a striking color in the glass and a medley of rich fruits coming from the Cabernet: black currant, plum and juicy berries with a whisper of bay leaf and licorice to boot. The Petit Verdot gives a kiss of spiciness, while the Merlot lends a hint of black cherry. The tannins are elegant and pristine. Fermentation begins in cement vats, just as it did generations ago. Finished in 2-3 year barrels, all re-used from her Château Deyrem-Valentin in Margaux. Non-filtré. 'Back to the future' Grand Vin de Haut-Médoc à la Christelle Sorge."
