91 points Robert Parker: "The outstanding 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne La Brunote (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan from white clay soils) was aged 12 months in larger wood demi-muids before being bottled unfiltered. Revealing slightly more concentrated blue, red and black fruits, lavender, incense and white chocolate notes, it offers an opaque ruby/purple color along with full body and a long finish. There is not a hard edge to be found in this voluminous, multilayered red. It should drink nicely for 5-7 years. (Aug 2011)"
91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe but very fresh, with mouthwatering acidity driving the linzer torte, blackberry and black currant fruit. Lovely spice cake and black licorice notes flash through the finish, with a dusting of cocoa powder. Drink now through 2013. 50 cases imported. (10/15/11)"

88 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "[$24 list] Bright light-medium yellow. Aromas of yellow peach, ginger and smoke, with a spicy component building with air. Moderately sweet (9 g/l r.s.) but with a sound, nicely buffered spine of acidity lending support. Shows the fruity side of the variety and finishes off-dry, with good dusty persistence. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
88 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "Lemon, orange and basil scent the Mann 2009 Riesling Cuvee Albert in a Muscat-like manner -- a resemblance that persists on a pungent, yet generously juicy palate. There is a melon-rind bitterness that -- along with a hint of cinnamon basil -- add to the stimulation of the finish, and a good balance has been struck between 9 grams of residual sugar scarcely noticeable as such and a moderate 13.2% alcohol. (May 2011)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "There's a lovely purity and transparency to this elegant white, showcasing its minerality, which drives the spring blossom, white peach and grapefruit zest flavors. The citrusy acidity shows precision and adds a streamlined quality, with a long, white pepper-laced finish. Drink now through 2025. 100 cases imported. (2/28/11)"
90 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$43 list] At 13.5% alcohol and a scarcely-detectable 8 grams of residual sugar, the Albert Mann 2009 Riesling Schlossberg boasts an engaging aroma of fennel, mint, grapefruit, honeydew melon and saline, alkaline sea breeze, anticipating a generously juicy, saliva-inducing and refreshing palate performance. There is lovely, sappy, lip-smacking length, and a combination of lift and mineral dimension such as one encounters too seldom in this vintage. Enjoy this over the next 7-9 years. (May 2011)"
90 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(13.5% alcohol, 8 g/l r.s. and 6.7 acidity) Bright pale yellow. Pungent aromas of grapefruit, quinine and lemon verbena. Chewy, pliant and slightly sweet, with intense, juicy flavors of citrus peel and lichee. A bit exotically ripe for this cuvee but smooth, refined and perfumed. Finishes with excellent dusty length. Mann's Schlossberg riesling can be extremely stony and dry but the 2009 version won't hurt your teeth. (Nov/Dec 2010)"

This is quite ripe, indeed to the extent of having mocha and cassis aromas that manage to retain a reasonable sense of freshness. The suave, round and delicious middle weight flavors are quite textured as here too there is ample dry extract that renders the firm tannins almost invisible on the mouth coating yet slightly bitter finish where a hint of wood toast surfaces. In contrast to the villages Chambolle however, there appears to be enough extract present to allow the tannins to round out and thus my score offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink: 2016+. This is also quite ripe yet the nose remains fresh, complex and is almost elegant in style with its aromatic profile of floral, black cherry and cassis notes. The earthy middle weight flavors brim with dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins on the fleshy and delicious finish. Comments: Outstanding. Drink: 2014+. (Jan 2011)"
88-90 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Cote de Nuits-Villages is another rich, explosive wine. This shows notable intensity, although most of the wine’s appeal is in its up-front juiciness. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. (May 2011)"
89+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Tasting a wine such as Denis Bachelet’s Côte de Nuits Villages really makes one wonder why Brochon continues to not have its own appellation? Surely there are several examples of Côte de Nuits Villages from Brochon that are more serious wines than even the best examples from Maranges, so why has the AOC not deigned to grant this village its own appellation? In any case, the 2009 Côte de Nuits Villages from Monsieur Bachelet is really superb, with the inherent elegance of the vintage very much in evidence here on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is a lovely mélange of cassis, grilled meats, espresso, Gevrey-like black minerality and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very long, with suave tannins, lovely focus and excellent length and grip on the finish. Classy juice. 2014-2035. (Nov/Dec 2010)"

90 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Chambolle villages from Madame Barthod is a dynamite example of the vintage and a wine that I will certainly be trying to add to my own cellar. The nose is deep, pure and classic, as it jumps from the glass in a lovely mix of red and black cherries, fresh herb tones, raw cocoa, lovely soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and sappy at the core, with a great signature of soil, fine-grained tannins, tangy acids and excellent length and grip on the classy finish. I would tuck this lovely AC away for four or five years to let its secondary layers of complexity emerge, but it is going to be hard not to drink early on, as it is so beautifully balanced that its moderate tannins are not going to put up much resistance. Great juice. 2014-2035. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
88-91 points Fine Wine Review: "The Chambolle is pure and mineral with dark and red fruits in the nose. In the mouth, the wine shows less power than the Bourgogne, although it is still fairly powerful, with dark fruit and some minerality. (Issue #130; 2011)"
87-90 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from 11 different parcels totaling 1.5 ha, scattered all around Chambolle). An ultra fresh, airy, pure and high-toned red pinot fruit nose slides gracefully into detailed and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a dusty, mouth coating, balanced and linear finish. This is a classically styled Chambolle of finesse. Drink: 2014+. (Jan 2011)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Beaux Bruns is a stunning wine in the making and clearly one of the best Chambolle premier crus that I tasted on this trip. The bouquet is deep, pure and really vibrant, as it soars from the glass in a sappy mélange of plums, black cherries, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, intense violets and a stunningly complex base of soil. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and very soil-driven, with the great core of fruit wrapped in beautiful terroir. The finish is very, very long, with ripe tannins, excellent focus and grip and beautiful, nascent complexity on the backend. A beautiful bottle of wine that will richly deserve six or seven years of bottle age before broaching, just to let it really cut loose on the nose and palate. 2016-2040. (Nov/Dec 2010)"
90-94 points Fine Wine Review: "The Chambolle-Beaux Bruns is the first vineyard that Barthod harvested, as it always seems to mature faster than the others. The wine is powerful with mineral dark fruits and a hint of licorice. There is no heaviness here, and it seems to be a particularly successful vintage for this cuvée at Barthod. (Issue #130; 2011)"
'Outstanding' and 90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .75 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines). This is notably riper with aromas of warm earth, spice and red and blue fruit liqueur that merge into rich, generous and quite plump medium-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate fat and a long and delicious finish. This is not the most complex wine in the range but it is very Chambolle in basic character. Drink: 2017+. (Jan 2011)"

90 points Robert Parker: "The 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah) includes a much higher percentage of Mourvedre than most wines in this area. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by notes of freshly sliced mushrooms, meat juices, garrigue, black cherries, and black currants. Full-bodied and intense with rugged tannins that need to be resolved, it possesses more than ample fruit to balance out the structural component. This 2009 will benefit from another year of bottle age, and should drink well for 7-8 years. (Aug 2010)"

94 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .47 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines). A highly expressive nose leaves absolutely no doubt where the underlying fruit was grown as this exudes almost as Chablis character as it's 2010 counterpart with an abundance of mineral reduction to the white flower and iodine-infused nose. There is fine detail to the powerful, concentrated and mineral-inflected flavors that possess superb length and seemingly an endless reserve of dry extract. Even though this is a big wine, even by the extraordinary standards of a typical Les Clos, this is like rolling rocks around in your mouth. Drink: 2016+. (Oct 2011)"
94+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Chablis Les Clos is playing its cards close to the vest, which is not surprising, as it was bottled a month ago. Though texturally elegant, the wine needs time for the aromas and flavors to come back to life. There is no denying the wine's harmonious finish though. My impression is that all this needs is time. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
(Aug 2011)"
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Pale straw-yellow. Initially reticent nose opened nicely to show complex aromas of smoky minerality, snap pea, orange zest and wild herbs; reminded me a bit of gruner veltliner. Densely packed and powerful, with the minerality of the vineyard trumping the ripe vintage character. Offers impressive volume without weight and finishes long, tactile and palate-staining, with a faint bitterness. This will require bottle aging to harmonize its acidity and salty component. 94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2009 Chablis Les Preuses comes across as bombastic next to the Vaudesir. Here the fruit is decidedly riper, richer and sweeter, which is felt not just in the flavor profile, but also in the wine's glycerin and weight. The Preuses is a large-scaled wine that desperately needs food to be fully appreciated. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. (Aug 2011)"

Drink: 2016+. (Oct 2011)"
93 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): "[$75 list] The estate's 2009 Chablis Vaudesir is one of the more understated selections in this lineup. It is less minerally intense than some of the other wines, but makes up for that with its generous fruit and warm, radiant personality. This is another excellent choice for nearer term drinking, although I don't exclude the possibility that it may also age quite well given the freshness of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Aged 18 months on its lees, the wine exhibits lots of crushed seashell, lemon butter, zesty grapefruit and white currant characteristics in a fresh, medium-bodied, ripe, mineral-laced style. With more body and intensity than the three 2010 cuvees, it should be drunk over the next 12-24 months. (Aug 2011)"

In the mouth, the fruit is dark and there is acidity that gives nervosity. Plenty of tannin here, too. This wine comes from the bottom portion of the vineyard. (Issue #130; 2011)"
89-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Proust said that this was not vinified by Bouchard. A ripe, spicy and intensely menthol-suffused nose gives way to rich, mouth coating and opulently sappy flavors are shaped by notably firm tannins that are robust and, somewhat unusually, actually rustic, all wrapped in a solidly lingering finish. This is quite good without ascending to distinguished status. Drink: 2021+. (May 2011)"

At once rich and energetic, with very good depth to its sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. An intense spicy quality builds with air and carries through a very long, seductively sweet finish. (Jan/Feb 2012)"
93 points Rhone Report: "Coming all from the sandy soils in the La Guigasse lieu-dit and fermented with 100% whole-cluster, the 2009 Chapelle St. Theodoric Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Guigasse is a gorgeous Chateauneuf-du-Pape that is only a slight notch below the le Grand Pin. Taking the full evening to open up and show at its best, it delivers a perfumed, complex bouquet of kirsch, dried licorice, roasted garrigue, mineral, and lavender that flows to a full-bodied, seamlessly constructed wine. More elegant and finesse-driven than powerful, this nevertheless doesn.t lack for intensity and has superb concentration, excellent focus, and silky, lengthy finish. While showing well now, this should be even better with 3-4 years of bottle age and have upwards of two decades of overall longevity. (Jun 2012)"
92+ points Robert Parker: "[$70 list] The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Guigasse exhibits a dark ruby color along with a distinctive nose of roast meat, kirsch, black raspberries, lavender and licorice. Fuller-bodied, denser and firmer than Les Sablons, it represents a more virile, masculine style of wine. Layered and full, it needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should age well for 15 years. (Oct 2011)"
92 points Wine Spectator: "A very perfumy, enticing style, with toasted anise, cardamom and black tea notes up front, followed by silky blackberry and raspberry fruit and a long, graphite-filled finish. Latent grip at the very end bodes well for the cellar. A new project from Baptiste Grangeon of Domaine de Cristia. Best from 2013 through 2022. 100 cases imported. (2/29/12)"

92 points Robert Parker: "[$50 list] Revealing the lightest ruby color, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Sablons offers an exquisitely fragrant, ethereal nose of licorice, kirsch, sandy, loamy soil and spice box. The remarkable perfume and expansive texture are amazing given its surprisingly light ruby color, but that’s Grenache at its finest. Because of the forwardness of the vintage, I suspect this wine will drink well during its first decade of life. (Oct 2011)"
92 points Rhone Report: "The lightest colored of the lineup and beautifully perfumed and complex, the 2009 Chapelle St. Theodoric Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Sablons is about as silky and elegant as Grenache gets. Coming from three different parcels of sandy soils and aged in neutral barrels, it delivers a sweet array of kirsch liqueur, toasted spice, garrigue, flowers, and dusty mineral like qualities on the nose. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless wine that has no hard edges, a light, elegant texture, and a lengthy finish that has you looking for another glass. This might not have the depth or length of the other two releases, but it.s oh so drinkable and just straight up delicious. Drink this while you give the other two releases cellar time. (Jun 2012)"
91 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and mouthfilling, with a saturated core of blackberry, blueberry cobbler and cherry compote, all stitched with hints of plum eau de vie and red licorice. The finish is polished and creamy. A new project from Baptiste Grangeon of Domaine de Cristia. Drink now through 2021. (2/29/12)"

(It there's a wine for "surf 'n turf," it's this.) The sense of clarity, brightness, and energy here is utterly infectious and the combination of pure dark fruits, invigoratingly pungent smokiness, and saliva-inducing salinity is bound to induce hunger - among other things for the next sip. Look for at least ten or a dozen years of stimulating acquaintance. (Jun 2011)"

89 points Rhone Report: "Laurent.s Cotes du Rhone is always a solid value and this vintage is no exception. The 2009 Le Poutet would be a perfect candidate for a house red and shows loads of black fruits, ripe herbs, meat, and olive characteristics, medium body, solid structure, and a clean, crisp style. It should be consumed over the coming 5-8 years. (Sep 2011)"
89 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Vivid ruby. Pungent aromas of strawberry and raspberry preserves, plus a hint of white pepper. Produced from purchased grapes grown on the hillsides behind the village of Mauves as well as from further north on the hillsides above Tournon and St.-Jean de Muzols, this St.-Joseph reveals copious aromas of licorice, bay leaf, bouquet garni, roasted meats, black cherries and raspberries. It possesses an attractive texture as well as lots of fleshy, fat flavors, and good acidity and freshness. It, too, should drink nicely for a decade. (Dec 2011)"
90 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Opaque purple. Classic syrah aromas of cassis, cherry pit, olive and violet, with smoke and cracked pepper accents. Juicy and sharply focused, with deep but vivacious dark berry and bitter cherry flavors. Clings impressively on the finish, leaving behind notes of candied flowers and spices. 90-94 points Fine Wine Review: "Chevillon’s Nuits-Roncières is less deep than the previous two wines (we’ve switched here from the Côte de Vosne to the central part of Nuits) but more stony with ripe tannins that are most evident. The overall profile of the wine is one of coolness. (Issue #130; 2011)"
90-93 points and 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a 1.0 ha parcel of 45+ year old vines). Moderate wood influence does not unduly hamper the attractiveness of the otherwise fresh and bright earthy and high-toned red pinot fruit suffused nose. The rich and solidly structured medium-bodied flavors possess copious amounts of mid-palate sap, which is a good thing because the impressively persistent finish is firm to the point of being chewy. This is potentially the best example of the Chevillon Roncières that I have ever seen from cask though note that patience will be required. Drink: 2019+. (Jan 2011)"
90-93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Bright, dark red. Cooler aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, smoke and minerals. Juicy, tight and firmly built; sweet but not at all cooked. This pure, fruity wine shows very good energy from calcaire Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely lingering perfume. An excellent early showing for this wine. (Jan/Feb 2011)"

88-91 points Fine Wine Review: "The Nuits shows dark fruit with a touch of game, but the wine is pure and has a silky texture. It is most pleasurable. (Issue #130; 2011)"
90+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The old vine Nuits AC is outstanding in 2009 chez Chevillon and will offer up one of the great values of the vintage. The nose is a very refined, spicy blend of red cherries, pomegranate, classic Nuits notes of nutskin, fresh herbs, coffee and minerals. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely reserved, with a fine core of fruit, very lovely focus and balance, suave tannins, sound acids and very good length and grip on the complex and youthful finish. Classy juice. 2016-2040. (Nov/Dec 2010)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "[$165 list] This detailed, pure red evokes violet, cherry, currant and spice flavors. As this develops on the palate, a mineral element emerges, with a savory, lingering aftertaste. Harmonious and fresh. Best from 2015 through 2032. 6 cases imported. (2/29/12)"
93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Monsieur Clavelier’s 2009 aux Brûlées had again been bottled only one month prior to my visit, but was showing very well recovered on both the nose and palate. The very pure nose offers up a complex mélange of black cherries, ripe plums, woodsmoke, roasted duck, a superb base of complex soil tones and a deft touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and beautifully transparent, with a sappy core of fruit, suave tannins, lovely focus, tangy acids and outstanding length and grip on the perfectly balanced and classy finish. A beautiful bottle of Brûlées in the making. 2016-2040. (Sep/Oct 2011)"
92 points Fine Wine Review: "The Vosne-Brulées shows violets and nervosity with richness and length. More time is needed here, but there is plenty of promise. (Issue #137; 2013)"
91 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from 50+ year old vines). An exuberantly spicy nose of wild raspberries, black cherry and sandalwood introduces rich, intense and sophisticated flavors that are quite fresh with an almost delicate mouth feel yet no lack of punch on the sappy, minerally and satiny finish. This wine combines power with finesse and should be excellent if given a decade or so of cellar time. Comments: Outstanding. Drink: 2019+. (Jan 2012)"
