90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A one- of-a-kind bouquet that includes aromas of cooked brown rice and broccoli, brown sugar, raw cane, brine, soy sauce and vanilla bean. The palate entry tastes of bittersweet sugar cane; at midpalate the taste becomes more sophisticated, silky, honey sweet and lightly spiced. Concludes nicely bittersweet, a bit cocoa-like, and beany (11/30/2005) Superb/Highly Recommended"
****Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Straw yellow/pale gold color; some sediment seen under the examination lamp. Initial sniffs encounter generous, earthy/chalky aromas that are moderately sweet and spicy, almost akin to Christmas cake that includes nice things like dried fruit, ginger, brown sugar and cinnamon; following another seven minutes of air contact, the bouquet turns mildly grassy, caney, fruity and more intriguing as a result. Entry is plump, appealingly oily in texture and therefore substantial, and gently sweet; midpalate is multilayered, sweet but not overly so, and is keenly spicy, especially nut and vanilla. Concludes well on a measured note that elegantly combines sugar sweetness with acidity and oak. A worthy second generation (Mar 2012)"
From Trinidad. A "luxury" rum: from hand harvested cane, the first press cane juice, the small batch distillation in pot stills, and the French oak barrels that age it.

Producer notes: "Tasmania, a pristine island that sits below the rugged coastline of Australia, north of Antarctica. It's an environmental wilderness famous for its clean air and natural beauty. It's also home to the mad Tasmanian Devil, a very aggressive and evil tempered creature which you would not want to hand feed. Hidden away in this sanctuary of wild forests and windswept hills is the aptly named Cape Grim. Scientists have proven the air here is the cleanest in the world. The wind blows the Antarctic rains uninhibited to the Cape. This is where we source our water. Each precious drop is so pure it is almost a sin to take it. Pure Distillery Company openly admit to stealing all that is natural and pure from Tasmania. We only use Tasmanian barley in our triple pot distilled and charcoal filtered process. The result is a velvety smooth yet distinctly clean tasting vodka. This is why 666 is known throughout the world as pure evil."

A blend of eaux de vie coming from the different growth areas of Cognac. Subtle and elegant character. Notes of vanilla, vines, flower, spices and pepper. Traditional distillation method on the lees (natural sediments resulting from the wine fermentation) allows the Cognac to develop richer aromatic notes. The Fussigny historic cellar located by the bank of the Charentes River, makes for perfect humidity and is ideal for revealing all the aromas of the Cognac. It also allows more alcohol than water to evaporate and creates a rounder, more subtle cognac. Ageing takes place in certified Limousin and Tronçais oak barrels.

90-95 points Superb/Highly Recommended Wine Enthusiast: "[$40 list] Nosing passes find delicious aromas of roasted chestnuts, nectarines, apricots, banana, traces of jasmine, unbaked bread dough and yeast, and light honey. Palate entry is assertive and caramel sweet; midpalate is more integrated as layers of sweet grain and toffee intermingle with dried fruits (prunes), oaky spice and marzipan. Concludes sweet, oaky and a touch Sherried. Best Buy. (12/15/09)"
Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion: "Vatting of first-fill sherry and unspecified refill casks. Colour: Bronze. Nose: Earthy, fruity. Pears. Apples. Tarte tatin. Body: Medium, firm. Palate: Melty pastry. Caramel sauce. Custard (in this instance, let's call it crème anglaise). Leaves of garden mint. Finish: More of the mint. Now it has become spearmint."

****Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "The nose leaps from the sampling glass right from the pour in sweet/sour waves of ripe orange (actually, to me, more like clementine orange than mandarin) and orange hard candy; the second and third nosing passes offer little in the way of derivation from the inital impression; the fourth and last whiff shows authentic staying power as the orange perfume is every bit as vivid and alluring as in the very first inhalation; it's a lovely bouquet. The mouth presence remains true to the cracking good bouquet as both the palate entry and the midpalate burst with ripe, sweet, juicy orange flavor. The finish is long, citrusy acidic, and pleasing on all counts; easily the equal of rival Stolichnaya Ohranj though as is Absolut's thumprint trait, Mandarin is lighter than the beefier Ohranj; both are terrific products and make outstanding mixers."

Born from the steam distillation in small pot stills of approximately 70 herbs and valuable spices from Europe, Central America and the Orient. A perfectly natural product, it obtains its typical yellow color from the saffron added to the alcoholic infusion; then a long fermentation in oak vats concurs to the perfect balance of the aromas and contributes to the characteristic fine, smooth and soft taste. Excellent after a meal, it expresses its versatility in the most varied manners hence assuring an indisputable satisfaction whether sipping it dry, with ice or iced. Both the taste and the warm solar colour become the inseparable companions of long-drinks and cocktails, but it is also added to ice cream, fruit salad and as ingredient in cake preparations.

Producer notes: "Knockdhu Distillery, established in 1894 and one of the smallest and most enchanting in the Scottish Highlands, is renowned the world over by malt enthusiasts for producing a Single Malt that makes every day a special occasion. The Knockdhu Distillery nestles under the mysterious Knock Hill, known to locals by its Gaelic name of anCnoc. Curiously, the Single Malt produced from the Knockdhu Distillery is not named after the Distillery. It is proudly named after the anCnoc, which provides the source of the pure crystal spring water that is an essential element of anCnoc Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Nose: Soft, very aromatic with a hint of honey and lemon in the foreground.
Colour: Amber with a slight yellow hue.
Taste: Sweet to start with an appetising fruitiness and a long smooth finish. A malt for every occasion."

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautiful, mouthwatering newcomer to the whiskey scene. Named for the 'angel's share,' the portion that evaporates from the barrel during the aging process, this golden amber spirit is finished in Port barrels, which explains those juicy red-fruit notes that slide into the long finish. Look for orange peel, vanilla and roasted nut flavors, too. abv: 43.3%. (Jul 2012)"
Named after the 'angel’s share' (the portion of the spirit that evaporates during aging), Angel’s Envy was created by Lincoln Henderson, developer of Gentleman Jack and Woodford Reserve. His new project is aged 4-6 years, made up of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt and is aged in air-dried Bluegrass Cooperage barrels and finished in ruby port barrels. It’s a very subtle bourbon, with a nose of vanilla and toasted nuts. A hint of maple in the flavor and a smooth finish that lasts.

****Highly Recommended, F.Pault Pacult (Spirit Journal): "The neon orange color is very pretty and ideally pure. Right out of the box the orange/tangerine/rhubarb aroma seduces the olfactory sense; more air contact stimulates the herbal/botanical aspects as the bouquet turns garden fresh, viny, grassy, and citrusy; this is a sophisticated and gently aroma that I could sniff all day long. The palate entry is guardedly sweet and delightfully citrusy/fruity; the midpalate phase offers just enough herbal bitterness to balance the sweetness. Ends up refreshing, orangey sweet/ripe, and delectably herbal. A supremely mixable elixir (club soda, sparkling wine) that , if there is any justice, should become a favored pre-dinner quaff in aware US households and restaurants."
Wine & Spirits: "The aperitivo Italiano trumpets its poco alcolico (only 11% abv) right on its front label. It's often referred to by bartenders as 'Campari Lite' and, in fact, is now owned by Italy's Gruppo Campari. (Fall 2010)"

93 points and 'Top 50 Spirits 2011,' Wine Enthusiast: "Complex and appealingly herbal, this spirit is marked by its coffee-brown color and a scent like spearmint-spiked espresso. The flavor is sweet, faintly coffee-like, with warm Dutch licorice, anise and sarsaparilla notes. The brisk finish is minty then bitter. Heavy, syrupy feel. (Feb 2011)"
**** Highly Recommended, F.Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Opaque, deep brown/black color. Smells tantalizingly of bittersweet dark chocolate, orange peel, and herbs in the first aromatic go-round; further air contact stimulates aromas of flowers, jasmine, bark, forest, honey and very light quinine. The palate entry is intensely sweet and more floral than herbal; at midpalate the taste profile turns cocoa-like with other notes of citrus rind, molasses, brown sugar, and grass. Concludes sweet, thick, and luscious."

****Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Excellent purity; silvery appearance. Features delicate and pleasing aromas of dill, pine and citrus in the initial inhalations; second phase inhalations detect a moderate amount of saltiness and rounded scents that include beeswax, light honey and fresh dill; the aromatic focus is definitely on elegance. Entry features an element of light smoke, tar and black pepper; mid-palate is pleasingly oily, soft in approach and supple. Ends on a frisky, piquant note of heightened black pepper. Nicely done; classy. (Sep 2011)"
The agave aroma is intense with herbal tinges of mint and rosemary, delicate hues of flowers and black pepper, hints of grapefruit and pineapple. It is crisp and clean, well balanced and exceptionally smooth.

****Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "A blend of original Benedictine and cognac. The auburn/bronze/burnt orange color is gorgeous and ideally sediment-free. Smells assertively of herbs (fennel, sage, licorice), honey, quinine, and baking spices (mace, allspice, cardamom) straight out of the starting gate; aeration stimulates further leafy vegetative aromas, most notably, black tea and tobacco. Entry tastes of tea, sage, fennel, and a deft touch of root-like quinine; at midpalate the cognac enters the equation and lends an obvious layer of elegance and genuine distillate presence. Finishes like a champion, long, semisweet, intensely herbal, mildly spicy, and satiny."

Wine Spectator: "This opens with a big, sweet nose of corn, maple and vanilla, and a looming alcohol heat. There's spicy cinnamon-clove candy, sweet corn, a hint of leather and smoothing baker's chocolate, then an oily spread that flashes to a sweet-hot finish. The most 'old-timey' of the Beam Small Batch Bourbons. 107 proof. (1/31/12)"
Small Batch. The recipe of Jim Beam's grand-nephew, Baker Beam, is made with a special jug yeast that's been in the family for over 60 years. It provides a silky smooth texture and gives Baker's a full, balanced flavor. Very aromatic with a sweet, smooth, medium long finish.

94 points Beverage Testing Institute: "[$39 list] Bright orange amber color. Intriguing aromas of orange marmalade, dried apricot, spice cake, pineapple blossoms and suede with a vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a long, orange bread crust, peach cobbler, peppery spice and limestone accented finish. A remarkably fruity, exotic and enigmatic whisky that will make unique cocktails. (7/5/11)"
This oddity is neither like Scotch nor any other kind of aged spirit. Made in the Cognac region of France from a blend of malted barley and wheat, it's aged five to seven years in a combination of Limousin oak, cherry wood and acacia casks. The result is rich in cherry, peach, pear, almond and vanilla scents while the flavor combines sweeter floral qualities of Bourbon with a Cognac and Calvados fruitiness. Once you get over the urge to categorize it, the spirit is very easy to drink. Maybe it's the French love for wine, but with a little sweet vermouth and bitters, it makes a fantastic Manhattan. 40% abv.

**** Highly Recommended, F.Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Impeccably pure and silvery bright, almost pewter-like in appearance. In the initial whiffs, the juniper berry presence is perfectly supported by desert dry notes of dried orange peel and black pepper; following the usual seven minute extended period of air contact, the bouquet turns floral and earthy, spicy and crisp, all while never losing its juniper focus; a textbook London Dry Gin bouquet. The palate entry is sharp and crisp as a razor, lovely and balanced in its botanical usage and dry; at the midpalate point there's a burst of citrus juiciness that counters the earthiness of the juniper and angelica root. Finishes in a compelling rush of sweetish juniper madness that I find incredibly attractive."
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "At first, this gin comes across as sweet, clean and mild, but it finishes with a pronounced spice box punch of juniper, cardamom and citrus. Note to mixologists: Thanks to the assertive finish, this gin would hold up in a cocktail with a lot of other flavors. (Apr 2011)"
Based on James Burrough's original 19th century recipe, the botanicals in Beefeater Gin are steeped for 24 hours prior to distillation resulting in a complex, yet perfectly balanced gin of depth and integrity. Wild juniper combines with the subtle spice of coriander and the citrus freshness of lemons and Seville oranges for a vibrant gin suitable for every occasion.

A distinctive feature of Beluga Vodka is the hyaline artesian water from Siberian springs used in the distillation process, and malt spirit made from coached malt enzymes that help significantly improve the taste. Malt gives Beluga Vodka a deep and refined taste and flavor. Distillation takes about a month -- from filtration, smoothing and a lengthy product 'maturation'. Beluga Vodka comes in bottles made of crystal-pure French glass, and each bottle is manually decorated with a 3D symbol of beluga fish.

*****Highest Recommendation, F. Pault Pacult (Spirit Journal): "More coppery/henna-like in color than B&B; excellent purity. The comely herbaceousness doesn't leap from the glass as much as if wafts in stately manner; aeration releases multiple layers of mesmerizing fragrance, including pine/cedar, quince, fennel, white pepper, licorice, mace, allspice, sage, and rosemary; there is no other liqueur bouquet like it. What's missed in the aroma is the orange zest/tangerine that's evident in the palate entry; the flavor profile at midpalate is in full swing as layer after layer of appealing taste bobs up then ducks down, leaving room for the others; these exotic yet familiar flavors include orange zest, tangerine zest, multiple herbs and spices, honey, and pine. One of the ten best liqueurs in the world."
Named to the Spirit Journal's '140 Best Five Star Spirits in the World for 2012 (#129)': "Made for centuries, Benedictine is a mellow yet characterful liqueur that smacks equally of benign medicine and delectable spirit. (Jun 2012)"
'Top 50 Spirits of 2008' and Classic (96-100)/Highest Recommendation, Wine Enthusiast: "The bouquet is mesmerizing with multiple layers of fragrances that include pine/cedar, quinine, fennel, white pepper, licorice, mace, allspice, sage and rosemary. An orange zest flavor appears at palate entry; midpalate finds exotic tastes of orange zest, tangerine zest, multiple herbs and spices, honey and pine. A fabulous liqueur. Best Buy."
