Producer notes: "What makes this particular vintage so good? Consider the vineyards that compose over 90% of this wine -- Fanucchi (planted in 1906), Carlisle (planted in 1927), Rowe (planted in 1906), Rossi (planted in 1910), and Bedrock (planted in 1888). All of these vineyards are designates in their own right. With the exception of Rossi, all contain significant mixed blacks. If you’re a fan of high quality, old-vine Zinfandel at a bargain price, back the truck up. Serious folks, take advantage of my lack of sanity. No one should be selling a wine this good for so little. 677 cases produced. Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-garnet. A classic 'zin-berry' (raspberry, cherry) aroma is highlighted by notes of briary spice and black pepper. Smooth and full-bodied on entry, a wave of red fruits envelops the palate while refined tannins build through the finish. The texture and precision of this wine is simply amazing! Drink now. Drink next year. Drink all the way until 2018! No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!"

90 points and 'Good Value,' Connoisseurs' Guide: "By every report and what we have seen in early tastings, 2011 is an uneven vintage, especially as far as red wines are concerned. This extremely well-made working proves that, as always, very good wines await those willing to search, and it hits the varietal mark smartly. It is precise in its focus on ripe berries and briary spice, and it is particularly well-balanced with fine energy and a long, very firm finish. It is still on the tight side and we would argue against hasty drinking, but it is an easy-odds bet to grow and improve for another three to five years. (Jan 2013)"

(We'll reduce item's price when processing your order.) Producer notes: "Comprised of barrels selected out of both old (planted in 1973) and younger (planted in 1999) blocks at Bien Nacido. This year’s cuvee comes from mostly old vines from the western edge of the vineyard where there is more clay and a few younger blocks to the east where there is more shale and gravel over the loam. I believe the clay gives the wine more plushness and acidity, and the shale/gravel its minerality. Forest floor, Mandarin orange, spice, chalky tannin. 149 cases produced. Alcohol 13.5%."
Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 91 points and 'Outstanding' by Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A beautifully spicy nose evidences a touch of sandalwood along with hints of red cherry and raspberry. The palate impression is lush to the point of opulence yet the middle weight flavors retain a good sense of verve as well as fine acid/fruit balance on the intense and solidly persistent finish. This is lovely and while it could certainly be approached now, it will be better with a few years of cellar time. Drink: 2015+."

92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Bright floral aromatics lead to white and yellow orchard fruit, spices and crushed rocks in the 2010 Chardonnay The Meadows Vineyard. This is a fairly restrained Chardonnay for Hansel, with less overtness than is typically the case. In 2010, The Meadows speaks to class and elegance. There is a pointed, focused quality to the finish that is particularly attractive. The Meadows is a fabulous value in Russian River Chardonnay. In 2010 Hansel bottled the Meadows separately for the first time. Previously, this fruit had gone into the Estate Chardonnay. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (Apr 2013)"
