100 points Wine Spectator: "It's hard to imagine a more concentrated, layered young Brunello, with aromas of crushed berries, treacle tart, light raisin, coffee and chocolate that follow effortlessly to the palate. Full-bodied, with chewy yet velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Develops wonderfully in the glass and grows fruitier with every minute. A great wine, with extraordinary depth. One of the greatest Brunellos of all time. Classic. Best after 2012. 895 cases made. (4/30/07)"
100 points James Suckling: "Unbelievable. Can you believe the texture and depth in this wine? Very precise, full bodied with fabulous length that goes on with a hint of minerals. I am left speechless after this wine. Fabulous. (1/9/11)"
Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "As usual, the celebrated Brunello Cerretalto '01 was in a class of its own, notching up yet another Three Glass triumph. It's a wine that faithfully reflects its terroir and lovely red soil. a Deep colour ushers in a nose that requires a few moments to release its full complexity, commencing with fruity notes of wild and morello cherries before progressing to medicinal herbs. In the mouth, there is concentration and impressive depth, with close-knit but well-integrated tannins, the full body nicely supported by acidity. The finish is exceptionally long and the cellar prospects are excellent. (2008)"

'Wine of the Year (2006)' and 97 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color with intense blackberry, chocolate and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied and ultravelvety, with caressing tannins. Vanilla, chocolate and berry. Goes on for minutes. Best after 2010. (4/30/06)"
97 points James Suckling: "There is so much ripe fruit here with a decadent richness that is just crazy. Verges on raisins but it goes instead to pure fruit. Very full and velvety with a long finish. I love this. (12/9/10)"
Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "The more modern-styled Tenuta Nuova '01 is no less remarkable. Here we see more barrel influence on the ripe fruit while the palate flaunts terrific component balance. It too builds a superbly luxurious, endless finish. (2007)"
96 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "Medium-deep bright ruby. Beautiful, profound nose of sweet ripe cherry, pipe tobacco, almond and raspberry jam. Ripe, suave and juicy, with sweet flavors similar to the aromas, this is an absolutely seamless wine with lively harmonious acidity on a suave, never-ending finish. Though extremely concentrated, this is a uniquely refined Brunello with wonderfully suave smooth, classy tannins. (Jun 2007)"

98 points Robert Parker: "There are nearly 1,000 cases of the 2006 Ermitage l’Ermite, another candidate for perfection in a few years. It boasts an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a stunning bouquet reminiscent of a grand cru Musigny from Burgundy. Spring flower, crushed rock, black raspberry, and black currant scents dominate the aromatics of this incredibly pure, full-bodied wine. With laser-like precision and enormous extract and concentration, it comes across as remarkably elegant and fresh with crystal clear focus. A beautiful tour de force from the decomposed granitic soils of this site on the top of the Hermitage mountain, this amazing wine requires a decade of cellaring, and should last for 35 years. (Apr 2009)"
97 points Wine Spectator: "[$380/750ml list] This Northern Rhône red is tightly wound, but also supersleek and racy, with a terrific beam of blackberry and raspberry ganache pushed by graphite, iron and violet notes. Long and extremely precise, with a terrific mouthwatering undertow. Best from 2010 through 2026. 955 cases made. (6/15/09)"
94 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Full ruby. A roomfilling bouquet of fresh red and dark berry scents, along with smoked meat, violet, incense and minerals. Wonderfully fresh in the mouth, with vibrant raspberry and black cherry flavors. Gentle tannins rein in the expansive fruit without standing in its way. The finish is all about fruit, with late-arriving notes of black olive and smoky minerals. Extremely sexy now but balanced to age." Organic/biodynamic since 1991 (certified by Biodyvin/Demeter).

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2002 Corton 'Renardes' is a really superb example of this vintage and one of the best 2002s I have tasted of late. The wide open and very pure nose delivers a fine mix of red currants, strawberries, cherries, a touch of coriander, incipient notes of bonfire, orange zest and a great base of stony minerality. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and rock solid at the core, with beautiful balance, tangy acids, moderate tannins and a very long, focused and complex finish. Admittedly, this is Corton, which is often one of the most transparent reds in the Côte de Beaune, but I get a strong signature of soil in the 2002 Gaunoux Renardes that is very exciting and often missing in many of the higher pedigree examples of this vintage that I have tasted in the last few years. A beautiful wine that is almost at its plateau of maturity. 2015-2050. (Sep/Oct 2011)"
18/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Burgundy): "Good colour. Good stylish, fragrant fruit on the nose. Fullish bodied, rich and balanced, but a bit four-square on the palate. Yet rich and intense on the follow-through. Fine plus. Drink: 2010 to 2025. (Mar 2005)"

95 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .63 ha parcel). An overtly sauvage nose features game-inflected aromas of dark berries, plum, floral and earth nuances that also exhibit a hint of smoke. Somewhat unusually, this is also quite finely detailed and while this is openly powerful, it's not at all rustic or tough though it is exceptionally tight and backward at present on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This is even more restrained than the Rugiens and like its stable mate, it's pointless to acquire this without the express intension of forgetting it in your cellar. That said, this offers fantastic upside potential to those who have the patience. Drink: 2030+. (Apr 2012)"
94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Corton 'Renardes' chez Gaunoux is truly stunning and is a step up from the excellent Grands Épenots in this vintage. The deep and utterly classic nose delivers an exciting blend of cherries, red currants, orange peel, a great base of stony minerality, coriander and other, more exotic spice tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very transparent, with a rock solid core of fruit, firm, but very refined tannins and stunning length and grip on the focused and very well-balanced finish. 2017-2050. 95 points and 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .63 ha parcel). A perfumed and highly complex nose features the classic sauvage character of a fine Renardes with plenty of spice, earth and underbrush nuances present on the very fresh mix of red currant and plum aromas. There is outstanding intensity, richness and concentration to the big-bodied mineral-driven flavors that also display an abundance of palate coating dry extract on the tremendously long finish. This doesn't have the same underlying tension as the Rugiens but it's even longer. A qualitative choice but note that these are two very different wines. Drink: 2025+. (Apr 2012)"

There are floral and smoked tea nuances present that add breadth to the beautifully complex earth, wet stone and pure red pinot fruit scents. There is superb intensity and strikingly good detail to the almost pungent mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that brim with structure-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a hugely long and impeccably well-balanced finish. This is a classic Rugiens that combines overt power with refinement. In sum, this is seriously impressive. Drink: 2025+. (Apr 2012)"

99 points James Suckling: "Amazing aromas of cep mushrooms, dark fruits and fresh flowers, follow through to a full body and super velvety tannins with a long long finish. Gorgeous structure to this. Sexy and almost decadent. Just like when I tasted it in Hong Kong. Try in 2019. (2/14/12)"
98+ points Robert Parker: "The 2009 Leoville Las Cases may be the most open-knit and forward Las Cases I have tasted to date. Analytically, it is high in tannin and the alcohol is 13.8%, nearly a record at this estate. This blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc was showing brilliantly at the 2009 tasting I did in Hong Kong and at a later tasting. It boasts an inky/purple color, monumental concentration and lots of sweet, jammy black currant, black cherry and kirsch fruit intermixed with crushed rock and mineral notes. As always, proprietor Jean-Hubert Delon has built a massive wine with exceptional precision, unbelievable purity and aging potential of 40-50 years. I was surprised by the lusciousness of this cuvee on several occasions, and how much more forward it is given the fact that Las Cases can often be forebodingly backward and in need of 10-15 years of cellaring (at age 30, the 1982 is still a baby in terms of development!). The super-concentrated 2009 needs another 5-7 years before additional nuances emerge. This is a brilliant, full-throttle St.-Julien. (Feb 2012)"
98 points Wine Spectator: "This is gorgeously layered with cassis bush, anise, roasted fig and plum reduction notes all framed by very racy espresso and graph-ite. Very deep and very long, with terrific intensity on the finish thanks to razor cut from the seemingly endless iron spine. With its purity and precision, this mineral-driven Cabernet should cruise for two decades. Best from 2020 through 2035. (1/11/12)"
98 points and 'Top 100 Cellar Selections 2012 (#35),' Wine Enthusiast: "A beautifully structured wine, with its tannins layered between the ripest black plums, damsons and black currants. It's opulent while remaining dense, concentrated and very serious. Certainly a wine for long-term aging. abv: 13.4%. (Apr 2012)"
19.5/20 points La Revue du Vin de France: "With is base of Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) the 2009 displays an ample profile, correct, with impressive tannic structure and majestic fruit with great acidity. (Jan 2012)"

100 points Robert Parker: "One of the more flamboyant and sumptuous wines of the vintage, this inky/purple-colored St.-Julien reveals thrilling levels of opulence, richness and aromatic pleasures. A soaring bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, graphite and spring flowers is followed by a super-concentrated wine with silky tannins, stunning amounts of glycerin, a voluptuous, multilayered mouthfeel and nearly 14% natural alcohol. Displaying fabulous definition for such a big, plump, massive, concentrated effort, I suspect the tannin levels are high even though they are largely concealed by lavish amounts of fruit, glycerin and extract. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. (Feb 2012)"
96 points James Suckling: "Gorgeous aromas of blueberries and blackberries, with flowers and minerals. Full body, with silky tannins and a bright acidity on the finish. Tangy and chewy. Muscular. Try in 2018. (2/27/12)"
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "An immensely structured wine, packed with dark tannins promising aging potential. It is complex, powerful, layered with new wood and concentration, finishing with dark plum fruits and acidity. (Feb 2012)"
95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(a blend of 62.5% cabernet sauvignon, 29% merlot, 6% petit verdot and 2.5% cabernet franc): Bright medium ruby. Classic Saint-Julien aromas of cassis, licorice, tar, minerals and dark chocolate. Lush, sweet and powerful, with a superb glyceral texture to the dark berry and dark chocolate flavors. Huge wine but not at all heavy. The extremely long, echoing finish features utterly noble tannins that saturate the front teeth. Offers a show-stopping combination of sweetness and structure. Built for three decades of life in bottle. (Jul/Aug 2012)"

96 points Wine Spectator: "Pure, rich and concentrated, this bold, graceful wine offers a deep core of earthy currant, blackberry and plum, with hints of herb, mocha and black licorice, giving it uncommon complexity and depth. Ends with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. Best from 2010 through 2017. (10/15/09)"
94 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers a beautiful perfume of violets, black currants, and subtle oak, lead pencil shavings, and spice characteristics. This full-bodied, creamy textured Cabernet possesses superb concentration, lovely purity, and a multilayered mouthfeel. It should drink well for two decades or more. (Dec 2008)"
94 points International Wine Review: "[$135/750ml list] The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve combines a powerful fragrance with intensity of flavor. It offers rich black currant fruit with notes of lavender, cassis and cedar. It reveals a creamy mouth feel with concentrated lingering black fruit flavors, spice notes and coconut. It also shows polished tannins and outstanding richness and balance right through to the finish. This is a wine to cellar for the decades. (Mar 2010)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(includes 8% cabernet franc) Good deep ruby-red. Currant, chocolate and tobacco on the nose. Silky, layered and lush, with a seamless texture to the full-bodied flavors of plum, currant and lead-pencil minerality. Has plenty of plump mid-palate fruit to support the big but thoroughly ripe tannins, which reach the front teeth. Mostly from To-Kalon fruit, the rest from nearby vines also in Oakville. Winemaker Janssens compared this wine to the 1995. This is sweet and approachable, whereas the 2005 version was young and aggressive at the same stage. (May/Jun 2009)"
'125 Top Picks of 2009' and 92 points Wine News: "[$135/750ml list] Inky, blackish hue. Menthol-laden bouquet with notes of leather and new oak. Soft plum, blackberry and red licorice flavors laced with fine-grain tannins. Vibrant mintiness, black cherry fruit and new oak prevail in the lengthy finish. (Sep/Oct/Nov 2009)"
92 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "In this tricky vintage, the Mondavi winery has been able to move beyond the potential angularity that pops up so often and instead has delivered a polished, focused wine that shows far more fruit and far better balance than its stated alcohol of 15.5% would seem to suggest. Ripe and mouthfilling but also amazingly silky in texture and deep in curranty fruit, this one has plenty of depth upon which to grow while its evident tannins age out over the next half decade and more. (Dec 2009)"
Quarterly Review of Wines: "[$135/750ml list] At first look, this is a sizeable, fleshed out beauty, but there is subtlety and refinement tucked into the plush exposition of black currant, cigar box, violets, sage and peppermint. Plenty dark and plenty ripe, but all the elements -- despite their size, breadth and forwardness -- are packed together in a most harmonic manner. Reminds me of one of Robert's favored sayings: 'All things in moderation ... with a few glorious exceptions.' (Autumn 2010)"

99 points Jay Miller (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 vintage was outstanding in Barossa, McLaren Vale, and Magill, the regions where the grapes were sourced for the marvelous 2004 Grange. It contains 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged for 16 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays a superb nose of wood smoke, Asian spices, incense, game, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Medium to full-bodied, satin textured, with deeply layered, succulent blackberry, plum, and chocolate flavors, it has the structure and complexity to merit extended cellaring of a decade and more. The winery estimates a drinking curve of 2016 to 2050; I'd be a bit more conservative on the long end of the range. It will ultimately be seen as one of the great vintages of Grange. (Dec 2009)"
98 points Wine Spectator: "Smooth and seductive, this delivers a full-throated chorus of currant, plum, blackberry and spice flavors, hinting at coffee and cardamom as the finish floats and sails easily over a bed of polished, refined tannins. A touch of black olive balances nicely against it all. Beautifully structured, expressive and very long. Best from 2012 through 2025. (10/15/09)"
96 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "(96% shiraz and 4% cabernet sauvignon) Powerful aromas of cassis, blackberry and bitter cherry are complemented by exotic notes of smoky peat, pipe tobacco, violet oil and fresh blood. Deeply concentrated cherry skin and blackcurrant flavors are underscored by a strong mineral quality, with a sexy floral element gaining strength with air. The minerality builds on the finish, which leaves a wide swath of spice and earth notes in its wake. This wine's marriage of depth, spiciness, fruit, meatiness and minerality is extremely impressive. (Sep/Oct 2009)"
96 points and 'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "[$500 list] A throwback to the monster Shiraz style of old, with loads of toasty, vanilla-laden oak, meaty nuances and driving, intense boysenberry fruit, the 2004 Grange should prove tremendously long-lived. Its massive concentration and firm tannins suggest cellaring through 2020, after which it should drink well for at least another decade or two. Alcohol 14.5%. (Nov 2011)"

100 points Robert Parker: "An opulent Petrus very much in the stylistic family of the 1990, this 100% Merlot has a dense plum/purple color and a sweet nose of mulberries, black cherries, some subtle toast and licorice as well as a floral element. A wine of great intensity, a multidimensional mouthfeel and full-bodied, stunning concentration, the 2009 Petrus 2009 is everything one would expect of it. Given the sweetness of its tannin, much like the 1990, I suspect this wine will always be 'open for business,' appealing even in its youth. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2050+. (Feb 2012)"
97-100 points Ian D'Agata (International Wine Cellar): "(100% merlot; 14.2% alcohol; 3.8 pH; 40 ha/hl; a 65% selection; 50% new oak) Fully saturated ruby-red. Mindblowingly intense, utterly hedonistic nose redolent of sexy, superripe blueberry and blackcurrant complicated by sweet Oriental spices, cocoa and coffee. Then creamy-smooth and downright voluptuous, with superconcentrated blackberry, blueberry and plum flavors complemented by delicate smoke and flint nuances. The utterly palate-saturating finish features silky-smooth tannins and finishing fruits, spices and minerals that go on for minutes thanks to harmonious acidity. I should note that the strength of finishing minerality goes beyond what I usually associate with this wine. The final wine may contain 1% cabernet franc, but that decision had not been made at the time of this tasting. This wine merits 100 points on the strength of its nose alone. (May/Jun 2010)"
99 points Wine Spectator: "[$4,000 list] This offers a beautiful balance between its two sides: dark fig, roasted plum and toast flavors versus racy raspberry, cassis and perfumy black tea notes. Silky overall, but with terrific latent grip and a mouthwatering minerality that drives through the finish, pulling out extra fruit paste and charred spice hints. Very, very impressive range. Best from 2018 through 2035. (1/18/12)"
99 points James Suckling: "Amazing aromas of blackberries, dark chocolate and hazelnut. Full body, with super velvety tannins, yet reserved and all in check. Fresh acidity and an orangy, lemon and chanterelle mushroom aftertaste. Then turns to black olives. Minerals and blueberries. Incredible. Still think 2010 is slightly better. Try in 2020. (2/27/12)"

90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Strong reduction prevents an evaluation of the nose though there is excellent richness and concentration to the delicious and sappy flavors that possess ripe supporting tannins and plenty of buffering mid-palate sap, all wrapped in a balanced, spicy, complex and built-to-age finish. Worth considering. Drink: 2020+. (Jan 2012)"

97-99 points Fine Wine Review: "The Clos de la Roche (which, fortunately, is available in abundant quantities, if not a bargain price) is one of the greatest that I’ve had the privilege to taste here. Complexity, precision, balance, and intensity are all here -- it just takes patience to let the wine age. (Issue #134; 2011)"
95-97 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche). In stark contrast to the expressiveness of the Clos St. Denis, this is almost mute and even aggressive swirling liberates only the briefest glimpses of wild red berries and earth notes. There is superb size and weight to the imposing and overtly muscular flavors that also enjoy an incredible amount of dry extract that confers a supple and seductively textured mouth feel to the highly concentrated mid-palate. The presently buried tannins are intense and markedly firm though not hard on the explosively long finish that seems to go on and on. This should be something very special if given sufficient time to reach its apogee. Comments: Don't miss! Drink: 2032+. (Jan 2012)"

95-98 points Fine Wine Review: "I’m not sure if there is another cuvée of the Clos-de-Vougeot, but this vieilles vignes shows typical black raspberry fruit with elegance, and medium power. The wine is long and linear and given the substantial time normally necessary for Clos-de-Vougeot, should make a top-flight wine. (Issue #134; 2011)"
92-95 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Deep ruby. A superbly multifaceted nose offers up nose of notably ripe black berry, plum and earth as well as hints of animale and underbrush. There is outstanding power to the very concentrated and serious large-scaled flavors that are underpinned by a dense layer of dry extract that does not completely buffer the exceptionally firm tannins as they too coat the mouth. This is an old school Clos de Vougeot that is positively Cistercian in its finishing austerity. I very much like this but I would only suggest purchasing it to those who have the forbearance to wait as this will definitely not be an early drinker. Drink: 2032+. (Jan 2012)"

I very much like this but I would only suggest purchasing it to those who have the forbearance to wait as this will definitely not be an early drinker. Drink: 2032+. (Jan 2012)"
