Joel Butler (International Wine Cellar) on the 1996 vintage: "(pure sangiovese from a vineyard in southern Tuscany with alluvial gravel soils; aged 50% in new French barriques and 50% in old Slavonian oak botti). Medium ruby-garnet. Sweet mineral and cherry aromas, with an enticing toasty component. Medium-full body. Rich, soft, coffee and black cherry flavors show a definite earthiness. Fleshy in the middle palate, but short in the finish due to stiffening tannins. The fruit should come back up with some time in bottle."
