It's useful to split Portugal into two "macro" wine regions by drawing a horizontal line about a third of the way down. This separates the northern regions of the Douro, Dão and Bairrada, and the central and southern regions of the Alentejo, Ribatejo, and Estremadura. Very generally speaking, the future for the northern regions lies in focusing on high-quality, top-end terroir wines, while the strength of the southern and central regions is their ability to produce accessible, flavorful wines in large quantities and at affordable prices: New World-style wines with a Portuguese twist.

95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Going back and forth, the Taylor’s 2009 has a lighter nose than the 2007 with precise dark cherry, Seville orange, fresh fig and a hint of scorched soil. The palate is full-bodied packed with ripe black cherries, fresh fig and white pepper; very harmonious and focused although I feel that the 2007 has a little more depth and persistency. Very pretty and very pure, this Taylor’s may well put on weight with a couple of years in bottle and merit a higher mark. (May 2011)"

This is not a flamboyant Vinha Velha, but there is a very attractive, slightly biscuity quality towards the finish. Superb. (May 2011)"

It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, licorice-scented and flavored raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port. (Oct 1996)"
