This 16 year old Aberlour has been matured in two cask types, traditional oak casks and the finest of sherry casks. Color: Rich golden amber. Nose: Rich, dry scented floral and sweet raisin aromas with a spicy nuttiness. Palate: Smooth, full, sweet floral and spicy flavors with a soft plum fruitiness and gentle oakiness. Finish: Long, warm spicy fruitiness.
90-95 points Superb/Highly Recommended Wine Enthusiast: "The bouquet is austere and leathery with curious aromas of beeswax, vegetable oil and oaky resin. Palate entry is focused on the resin; midpalate is splendidly multilayered and offers elements of black pepper, dried orange blossom, honeysuckle, dried fruit, sage, fennel and confections. Aftertaste is deep and unabashedly sweet and honeyed. (12/15/09)"
Michael Jackson (Malt Whisky Companion): "Lovers of the richer style of Speyside malt rightly regard Aberlour as being in the top echelon."

Matured exclusively in Spanish oak Oloroso Sherry butts, the rarest and most precious casks used for maturation and bottled at cask strength, a'bunadh possesses an unrivaled aromatic intensity. A richer mouth-feel and flavor complexity is achieved by bottling without the use of modern day chill-filtering methods. Nose: Full flavors, slightly smoky with red apples and a fine sherry character. Taste: Intense fruity flavors. Buttery and creamy with a syrupy fruit sweetness. Soft on the palate with a rich chocolate orange-like note. Finish: Long mouth warming feeling and mellowness. Slightly peaty with a honey and spicy aftertaste.
96-100 points Classic/Highest Recommendation Wine Enthusiast: "Intriguing and challenging bouquet of aromas of roasted nuts, old leather, black pepper, old oak and dried fruit. Palate entry is aggressive in spirit, but sweet and pruny; midpalate is drier and features tastes of leather and grain. Aftertaste teems with oak resin, hard cheese (meaning, rancio), candied nuts, candied fruit and dark honey. Add mineral water. (12/15/09)"
Wine Spectator: "Fruity. Brave the cask-strength heat and be rewarded by a malt that's welcoming and complex. Sherry and cherry dominate at first, but a cereal-granola-honey quality and a licorice note flirt from behind the curtain. The essential candy element returns on the finish. (2/28/11)"

90-95 points Superb/Highly Recommended Wine Enthusiast: "[$40 list] Nosing passes find delicious aromas of roasted chestnuts, nectarines, apricots, banana, traces of jasmine, unbaked bread dough and yeast, and light honey. Palate entry is assertive and caramel sweet; midpalate is more integrated as layers of sweet grain and toffee intermingle with dried fruits (prunes), oaky spice and marzipan. Concludes sweet, oaky and a touch Sherried. Best Buy. (12/15/09)"
Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion: "Vatting of first-fill sherry and unspecified refill casks. Colour: Bronze. Nose: Earthy, fruity. Pears. Apples. Tarte tatin. Body: Medium, firm. Palate: Melty pastry. Caramel sauce. Custard (in this instance, let's call it crème anglaise). Leaves of garden mint. Finish: More of the mint. Now it has become spearmint."

This rich, spicy 18 year old from Aberlour was only released for general consumption in 2008; prior to this it had only been produced for the French market. Nose: Creamy, like melted vanilla ice-cream. Fruity and honeyed. Palate: Fresh juicy apples and oranges before sherry kicks in with supple sultanas and vanilla. Finish: Intricate with chocolate raisins and oily caramel notes.

Producer notes: "Knockdhu Distillery, established in 1894 and one of the smallest and most enchanting in the Scottish Highlands, is renowned the world over by malt enthusiasts for producing a Single Malt that makes every day a special occasion. The Knockdhu Distillery nestles under the mysterious Knock Hill, known to locals by its Gaelic name of anCnoc. Curiously, the Single Malt produced from the Knockdhu Distillery is not named after the Distillery. It is proudly named after the anCnoc, which provides the source of the pure crystal spring water that is an essential element of anCnoc Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Nose: Soft, very aromatic with a hint of honey and lemon in the foreground.
Colour: Amber with a slight yellow hue.
Taste: Sweet to start with an appetising fruitiness and a long smooth finish. A malt for every occasion."

***** Highest Recommendation, The Spirit Journal: "Its strength is that is does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the malt, the natural sweetness of which subtly produces the perfect balance."A tour de force of the first Islay rank, and a classic in the making."
Wine Spectator: "Peaty. An alluring Islay example, with a big peat nose that's balanced out by salt spray and iodine. Delights on the palate with honey, bread dough and candy flavors that mix pleasingly with the remains of peat and salt. The finish is long and candied, with a whiff of smoke at the end. Non-chill filtered. 54.2 ABV. (2/28/11)"

Producer notes: "Balblair 1989 is subtly amber in appearance with rose gold highlights. A full-bodied malt with aromas of raisin, green apple and hints of banana and lemon. The American oak barrels, used in the distillate's maturation, lend a warm toffee, vanilla fragrance. On the palate there are raisins and fruits with a rich spiciness leading to a long, complex and ultimately smooth finish."

Producer notes: "The first release of Balblair 2001 is sparkling golden in appearance. This full bodied malt displays unmistakable Balblair characteristics: floral notes and aromas of fresh fruits such as oranges, apples and lemons. The American oak, ex bourbon casks, used in maturation impart distinctive toffee and vanilla notes. On the palate it is sweet and spicy; fresh fruits dominate and combine with toffee to create a balanced flavour and a long lasting finish."

Producer notes: "Balblair 2000 is bright golden in appearance. A superbly well balanced, full-bodied malt with aromas of pears, pineapple and green apples; hints of honey and vanilla, that come from the long years of maturation in American ex bourbon oak barrels, can also be detected, adding to the complexity of this exceptional Vintage. On the palate the sweet, honey, floral notes combined with hints of coconut and rich spices lead to a smooth, long lasting and warming finish."

94 points The Tasting Panel: "One of Scotland's oldest distilleries (1790) is being re-introduced to the U.S. market with this lovely 18-year expression; fragrant and softly grassy with dry, spicy flavors; light but very flavorful with elegance, a slight briny sea-foam nuance and showing hints of shortbread and vanilla; a charming surprise. (Jan/Feb 2011)"
Wine Spectator: "Fruity. A surprisingly big whisky given its range of characteristics normally associated with lighter whiskies. A very floral attack on the nose turns to honey, orange peel and grapefruit, becoming very candied in the mouth, with toffee, cocoa, orange, tangerine and some licorice. Finishes long, showing a bit of Stilton at the close. Non-chill filtered. Natural color. (2/28/11)"
Balblair 1991 is golden honey in appearance. A full-bodied malt with aromas of oranges, grapefruit and lemon; hints of chocolate and leather can also be detected. The American oak barrels used in the distillate's maturation, lend a warm toffee, vanilla fragrance. On the palate it is sweet, slightly spicy with traces of butterscotch and orange; smooth to start leading to a long-lasting, warming finish.

****Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Very pretty golden color; impeccable purity. Opening inhalations detect green tea and earthy/leafy notes of delicacy and grace; later sniffs after seven minutes of aeration encounter sweeter aromas, especially brown sugar, cotton candy and marzipan. Entry is slightly oily, piquant and spicy; midpalate showcases assertive flavors of vanilla bean, clove, dates, and dried apricot. Concludes elegantly, with a touch of the oil noted at the entry. 43% abv. (Dec 2010)"

***/Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "Highly attractive copper/burnished orange color; nearly flawless purity. Shows the Balvenie aromatic thumbprint of barley/ligh peat but goes further with lovely traces of oak resin, salted butter, and salted almond; further aeration stimulates supplemental notes of wax, black raisins, and parchment. Entry is sleek, nuanced in its portiness, and gently not overtly sweet; midpalate is fuller than the entry and more generous in flavor, offering oak-driven vanillin and traces of ruby port, lead pencil, bark, and dried nectarine. Concludes fruity, dry, and medium-rich. (Sep 2009)"
Its unique barrel aging, floor malting and labor intensive craftsmanship make this one of the most sought after single malt scotch whiskies. A perfume nose of fruity and ripe raisin notes, backed by a nutty dryness. It is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes, and has a long and gentle nutty finish. Matured in traditional oak casks for 21 years, then transferred to fine port wine casks, where it is sampled monthly by the Balvenie Malt Master, who ensures that just the right amount of character is imparted to the spirit. This process enhances and develops the single malt, while preserving its original characteristics.

****/Highly Recommended, F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal): "[$65 list] Bright bronze/amber color; impeccable clarity. Smells of barley malt, light peat, and chocolate covered orange peel in the initial whiffs; the depth of the barley fragrance knows no limits and that brewery house/distillery quality is fetching in its own right; love this malty, no nonsense bouquet. Entry is semisweet, with succulent tastes of brown sugar, nougat, and almonds coated in chocolate; the bakery/sweet shop feast continues in the midpalate stage as the taste profile turns slightly away from the sweetness and more towards the oiliness/resininess of the oak influence, thereby making for a highly complex and intricate taste experience. What Speyside is all about, mon amis. (Sep 2009)"
Malt Master, David Stewart, marries aged Balvenie from the finest first fill bourbon, refill and sherry casks to create this signature malt, characterized by honey, spice and subtle oak. Nose: Rich and complex with honey, citrus, fruits and vanilla oak notes. Taste: Rich and honeyed with a hint of sherry fruitiness. A spiciness of cinnamon and nutmeg and a subtle oakiness develop with time. Finish: Warm and lingering.

This was distilled at Blair Athol in May 1989. It was then aged for 23 years in cask 2930 before bottling in June 2012 for Duncan Taylor's Dimensions range. A release of just 270 numbered bottles. Toasty, bread like nose with apple crumble, custard, raisins and cocoa. Spiced palate with pepper, stem ginger and toffee apples. Hints of cinnamon develop. Long finish with zinging spices and pepper.
